No ignition discharge
Faulty ignition piezo Replace the piezo
Ignition electrode bro-
ken or incorrectly posi-
tioned
Replace the electrode or position it cor-
rectly (see fig. 10)
False contact between
terminal and cable
Screw down the terminal onto the igniter
cable
No pilot ignition No gas Open the gas cock
Air in the pipes Vent as specified in the section on lighting
Pilot nozzle obstructed Clean the nozzle with compressed air
Insufficient gas flow Adjust the flow with the valve screw
Poor pilot flame Incorrect flame adjust-
ment
Check the gas pressure
Pilot burner dirty Clean the pilot burner with compressed air
The pilot goes out Faulty thermocouple Check or replace the thermocouple
Poor flame Adjust the flame, with the screw on the gas
valve, until it envelops the thermocouple
Poor contact with the coil Tighten the union on the gas valve
No main burner ignition No power Wait for the power to return
Nozzles obstructed Clean the nozzles thoroughly
Faulty gas valve Repair or replace the gas valve
Fume thermostat inter-
vention
Check for any obstructions in the flue and
manually reset the fume thermostat
Explosions at main burner No gas Check the main burner gas pressure
Boiler dirty Check and clean the boiler shell
Burner dirty Check and clean the burner
The main burner burns poorly Incorrect flame adjust-
ment
Check the main burner gas pressure (see
table 2)
Smell of unburnt gas Boiler dirty Check and clean the boiler shell
Insufficient flue draught Check the efficiency of flue draught
Insufficient air change Increase room ventilation
Incorrect (excess) flame

Check the flow to the gas meter and the
main burner pressure
No temperature increase with boiler
working

Check gas consumption
Boiler dirty Check and clean the boiler shell
Boiler insufficient Make sure the boiler is adequate for the
heating system's demand
The control thermostat switches back on
with too great a temperature difference
Faulty control thermostat Replace the thermostat
Thermostat bulb out of
its sheath
Make sure the bulb is properly inserted
The boiler creates condensate Incorrect thermostat set-
ting
Set the thermostat to a higher temperature
Insufficient gas con-
sumption
Make sure gas consumption complies with
that specified in

Check the main burner flame and that gas
consumption is correct for boiler output
