Overview

This document describes the Fimco Industries Model YG-25-TRL (5303216) 25 Gallon Lawn & Garden Trailer Sprayer, a device designed for efficient and convenient application of liquids in lawn and garden settings.

Function Description:

The YG-25-TRL is a trailer-mounted sprayer system that draws liquid from its 25-gallon tank and delivers it under pressure through either a handgun or a boom assembly. It is powered by a 12-volt diaphragm pump and is designed to be towed by a vehicle, making it suitable for larger areas where a handheld or backpack sprayer would be impractical. The sprayer's primary function is to apply chemicals such as herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, or fertilizers to lawns, gardens, and other landscapes. The system includes a 2-nozzle boom for broad coverage and a low-flow spray wand for targeted applications. A pressure gauge allows the user to monitor and adjust spray pressure for optimal application. The pump is equipped with a pressure switch that automatically shuts off when all discharges are closed, preventing over-pressurization and potential damage.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Tank Capacity: 25 gallons, made of corrosion-resistant polyethylene.
  • Pump: 12 Volt Diaphragm Pump, 2.4 GPM (Gallons Per Minute) flow rate, 60 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) maximum pressure.
  • Spray Wand: Low-Flow Spray Wand with a 15 Ft. handgun hose (3/8" I.D.).
  • Spray Coverage (Vertical/Horizontal): 16 Ft. max. vertical throw, 30 Ft. horizontal throw.
  • Boom Assembly: 2-Nozzle Boom Assembly providing 80" spray coverage.
  • Nozzles: Corrosion-resistant nylon nozzles with check valve strainers (50 Mesh, 5 PSI).
  • Tires: 4.10/3.50 x 6" Pneumatic Tires.
  • Loaded Weight: Approximately 260 lbs. when the tank is full.
  • Maximum Towing Speed: 5 MPH.
  • Warranty: Sprayer - 1 year (homeowner), 90 days (commercial); Pump - 2 years (homeowner), 90 days (commercial).

Usage Features:

  • Easy Assembly: The manual provides clear, step-by-step instructions for assembly, including mounting the axle/tank supports, attaching the tongue, installing wheels, securing the trailer boom mount, and connecting hoses.
  • Pre-Use Testing: It is strongly recommended to test the sprayer with plain water before using any chemicals. This allows users to familiarize themselves with the sprayer's operation and check for leaks without wasting expensive chemicals.
  • Calibration: The manual includes a "Tip Chart" and "Speed Chart" to assist users in calibrating the sprayer for specific application rates (gallons per acre, per 1000 sq. ft., or per 100 sq. ft.) based on desired pressure (PSI) and towing speed (MPH).
  • Operation Modes: The sprayer can be operated using either the 2-nozzle boom for broadcast spraying or the handgun for spot treatments.
  • Pressure Adjustment: Pressure can be adjusted by slowly opening the bypass valve, which re-circulates solution back into the tank, thereby decreasing pressure. Closing the valve increases pressure.
  • Battery Connection: The sprayer requires connection to a fully charged 12-volt battery, either a standalone battery or the towing vehicle's battery.
  • Safety Warnings: Emphasizes reading and understanding the owner's manual, following chemical label instructions, wearing protective gear, exercising caution when towing, avoiding steep slopes, and not operating the pump without liquid. Warnings also cover not using the pump in explosive environments or with flammable/combustible fluids.

Maintenance Features:

  • Strainer Cleaning: Users are advised to occasionally check and clean the strainer screen located inside the tank, especially if experiencing a sudden loss of pressure.
  • Post-Spray Cleaning: After each use, the tank should be drained, flushed with clean water, and then cleaned with a tank cleaner (such as FIMCO Tank Neutralizer and Cleaner or dish soap) to prevent chemical residue buildup and contamination. Nozzles should also be removed and cleaned in warm, soapy water if necessary.
  • Winter Storage: For end-of-season or long-term storage, it is recommended to run RV antifreeze through the system. This lubricates internal parts, protects against corrosion, and prevents freezing. The antifreeze should be drained before the next use, and the system flushed with clean water.
  • Pump Care: The manual provides a "DO" and "DON'T" list for pump care, including cleaning with Fimco Tank Neutralizer, winterizing with RV Antifreeze, using clean water for spray mixtures, and storing indoors. It explicitly warns against pumping bleach, petroleum products (diesel, gasoline, kerosene), chemicals with petroleum distillates/surfactants, and leaving spray mixture in the pump for extended periods.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive troubleshooting chart helps diagnose common issues such as the pump not running, pump surging, pump running continuously, pump not priming, low pressure/flow, and fuse blowing. It also includes detailed instructions for checking the pressure switch and cleaning the check valve.
  • Parts List: Detailed exploded views and parts lists are provided for the main sprayer, boom assembly, and pump, facilitating identification and ordering of replacement parts.
