Overview

This document describes the FIMCO Model TR-20-EX (5301549) Owner's Manual, detailing a 20 Gallon Lawn & Garden Trailer Sprayer.

Function Description:

The FIMCO TR-20-EX is a trailer-mounted sprayer designed for lawn and garden applications. Its primary function is to efficiently apply liquids such as chemicals, fertilizers, or water over a wide area. It features a 20-gallon tank, a 12-volt diaphragm pump, and a 2-nozzle boom assembly for broad spray coverage. The sprayer is designed to be towed behind a garden tractor, making it suitable for larger properties or commercial use. It includes a handgun for spot spraying and a boom for broadcast applications, offering versatility in its usage. The system is equipped with a pressure gauge and adjustable pressure settings, allowing users to control the spray output according to their specific needs and the requirements of the applied chemicals.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The manual provides step-by-step instructions for assembling the sprayer, including attaching hitch brackets, axle and wheels, boom mounting brackets, pressure gauge, tank lid, and handgun clips.
  • Electrical Connection: Requires connection to a fully charged 12-volt battery, with the red wire to positive (+) and black wire to negative (-).
  • Pre-Use Check: Emphasizes testing with plain water before using chemicals to check for leaks and proper operation.
  • Operation:
    • Equipped with an ON/OFF switch on the wire assembly.
    • The pump has a factory pre-set pressure switch that shuts off at 60 p.s.i.
    • Filling: Always fill the tank 1/2 full with water first, then add chemicals slowly while mixing, then fill the rest of the way. The bypass can be used to mix chemicals and water.
    • Spraying: Solution is drawn from the tank through a strainer/filter to the pump, then forced under pressure to the handgun and/or boom nozzles.
    • Handgun: Activated by squeezing the handle lever; adjustable nozzle tip changes pattern from straight stream to cone mist.
    • Boom: Sprays an 80-inch wide swath; boom height can be adjusted for optimal spray pattern overlap.
    • Drain Plug: The drain plug assembly is pre-attached to the tank for easy draining.
    • Inlet Valve: Features an "ON/OFF" valve at the tank's inlet, which must be in the "open" position for operation.
  • Calibration: Provides tip charts (TKT-VP3, TF-VP3 & 30DT3.0 Tips) for determining application rates in gallons per acre, gallons per 1000 sq. ft., or gallons per 100 sq. ft., based on spraying pressure (PSI) and speed (MPH). A speed chart is included to help users determine the correct towing speed.
  • Safety: Advises reading chemical labels before application, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding spraying on windy days. Warns against using the pump in explosive environments or with flammable fluids.

Maintenance Features:

  • After Spraying:
    • Flush the sprayer tank and plumbing system with plain water.
    • Use FIMCO Tank Neutralizer and Cleaner, then flush again with plain water.
    • Remove and thoroughly wash boom tips and screens. Blow orifices clean and dry; use a fine bristle brush or toothpick if clogged, avoiding wire.
    • WARNING: Chemicals can damage pump valves if left untreated. Always flush the pump after each use and do not allow chemicals to sit in the pump for extended periods.
  • Winter Storage:
    • Drain all water from the sprayer, paying special attention to the pump, handgun, and valves, as these are prone to damage from chemicals and freezing.
    • Winterize by pumping RV antifreeze solution through the entire plumbing system.
    • Leave antifreeze in the system during winter months.
    • Before spring use, rinse the entire plumbing system to clear antifreeze.
  • Pump Troubleshooting: Provides guidance for common issues such as the motor not running (check wiring, switch, fuse, power supply, pressure switch), pump not priming (check for air leaks, debris, defective check valve, clogged strainer/filter, cracks in housing, empty supply), pulsating flow (check pressure switch, discharge line leaks/restrictions, nozzle orifice, long hose, clogged strainer), and motor running after discharge is shut off (check empty supply, open bypass valve, low voltage, discharge line leak, defective/dirty check valve, defective pressure switch).
  • Filter/Screen Cleaning: Instructions are provided for checking and cleaning the sprayer's filter/screen, located at the intake. This involves shutting off the nylon valve, unscrewing the knurled nut, swiveling the intake assembly, removing and cleaning the screen/washer, and reassembling.
  • General Care:
    • Clean and rinse the pump after each use with Fimco Tank Neutralizer.
    • Use clean water for spray mixtures.
    • Store inside a building when not in use.
    • DO NOT: Use to pump bleach, petroleum products (diesel fuel, gasoline, kerosene), leave spray mixture in it for extended periods, or use dirty/unfiltered water.
