Do you have a question about the First Alert FA168CPSSIA and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the FA168CPS/FA168CPSSIA and FA148CP/FA148CPSIA Security Systems, which are comprehensive security control panels designed for both residential and commercial premises. The FA168CPS models are SIA-compliant for False Alarm Reduction, while the FA148CP models can be programmed for False Alarm Reduction.

Function Description:

These security systems offer robust protection against fire and intrusion, with extensive capabilities for zone management, user access control, and communication with central monitoring stations. They support a wide range of peripheral devices, including keypads, zone expanders, wireless transmitters, and powerline carrier devices for home automation.

Key Capabilities:

  • Partitions (FA168CPS only): Supports 2 independent partitions, allowing two separate areas to be protected by a single control panel. A common zone option allows shared access while other partitions remain armed.
  • Zones:
    • FA168CPS: Up to 64 zones total (48 protection zones + 16 keyfob zones). This includes 8 basic hardwired zones (expandable with zone-doubling), up to 40 additional wired zones using 4219/4229 modules, and up to 40 wireless transmitter zones (5800 series). It also supports 4 configurable zone types.
    • FA148CP: Up to 40 zones total (32 protection zones + 8 keyfob zones). This includes 6 basic hardwired zones, up to 16 additional wired zones using 4219/4229 modules, and up to 26 wireless transmitter zones (5800 series). It supports 2 configurable zone types.
  • Security Codes:
    • FA168CPS: Up to 48 security codes with separate authority levels and partition access.
    • FA148CP: Up to 32 security codes with separate authority levels.
  • Downloading: Compatible with IBM-compatible computers, Compass downloading software, and Ademco-specified HAYES or CIA modems.

Usage Features:

  • Single-Button Arming: Dedicated keys on keypads allow for easy AWAY or STAY arming.
  • Schedules:
    • FA168CPS: Up to 32 schedules for controlling devices and/or auto-arming/disarming the system.
    • FA148CP: Up to 8 schedules.
  • Keypad Macros:
    • FA168CPS: Up to 4 macros.
    • FA148CP: Up to 2 macros.
  • Paging Feature: Allows system conditions to be reported to pager phone numbers. Dedicated keypad keys can send signals to pagers.
    • FA168CPS: Supports 4 pagers.
    • FA148CP: Supports 2 pagers.
  • Telephone Line Monitoring: Built-in option to monitor telephone line voltage, triggering local displays or trouble/alarm sounds if issues arise.
  • Event Logging: Records selected events in a history log, accessible via Ademco Compass Downloader software or installer/master code at the keypad.
    • FA168CPS: 100 events.
    • FA148CP: 50 events.
  • Zone Descriptors: Provides descriptive labels for all zones, useful with Alpha display keypads and/or the FA4285/FA4286 Phone Module.
  • Bell Supervision (Optional): Detects external sounder wiring shorts or opens, triggering a trouble condition, keypad display, and central station reports.
  • RF Jam Detection (Optional): For wireless systems, detects conditions that may impede proper RF reception, causing keypad display and central station reports.
  • Audio Alarm Verification (AAV): Can be used with an AAV module (e.g., ADEMCO UVS or Eagle Model 1250) to enable voice dialog between a central station operator and someone at the premises.
  • Phone Module (FA4285/FA4286): Provides access to the system via on-premises or off-premises phones for arming, disarming, and controlling relay outputs and Powerline Carrier devices.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • AC Power Supply: Plug-in 120VAC transformer (ADEMCO 1321 or 1361X10 for Powerline Carrier devices).
  • Backup Battery: Rechargeable (sealed lead-acid type) 12VDC, 4AH minimum. The panel will not power up on battery alone; AC power must be connected first. Battery saver feature disconnects the battery if voltage drops below 9VDC.
  • Alarm Output: 12VDC, 2 AMP output for compatible sounders. Provides steady output for burglary/panic or temporal pulse for fire alarms. Current limiting circuitry for protection.
  • Auxiliary Power Output: 12VDC, 600 mA maximum (fuse protected).
  • Long Range Radio: Primary telephone number messages can be reported via ECP connection to various Long Range Radios (e.g., 7720PLUS, 7820, 7835C, or 7845C).
  • Dimensions: 12-1/2" W x 14-1/2" H x 3" D (318mm x 368mm x 76mm).
