What to do if my Flotec Submersible Pumps Water Pump motor will not start but fuses do not blow?
    • C
      Cheryl MartinezAug 10, 2025
If your Flotec Water Pump motor won't start but the fuses aren't blown, there might be a few reasons: * There may be no voltage. Replace blown fuses. * There may be no voltage at the pressure switch. Replace the faulty pressure switch. * There may be no voltage at the submersible motor control. Rewire the supply to the submersible motor control. * The cable or splices may be bad. Consult a licensed electrician or serviceman. * The submersible motor control may be incorrectly wired. Reconnect the submersible motor control correctly, referring to the Wiring Installation Diagrams.

What causes air or milky water discharge from faucets with my Flotec Water Pump?
    • M
      Mario JamesAug 26, 2025
If you're experiencing air or milky water discharge from faucets with your Flotec Water Pump, here are a couple of potential causes: * There might be gas in the well water. Remove bleeder orifices and plug tees, ensuring the plugged tees do not leak. If necessary, separate gas from air before it enters the pressure tank. * The air volume control might not be working (standard tanks only). Make sure ports and ball check valves are clear. Replace the control if necessary.

What to do if my Flotec Submersible Pumps blows fuses or trips the overload protector when the motor starts?
    • J
      Jennifer DeanOct 30, 2025
If your Flotec Water Pump is blowing fuses or tripping the overload protector when the motor starts, here are a few things to check: * Ensure you're using the correct size fuse or time delay fuse, referencing the chart on Page 2. Install the correct one if needed. * Verify the wire size against the chart on Page 3 and install the correct size wire if it's too small. * Inspect the starting capacitor for any signs of damage and check its rating. Also, check the start relay. * Confirm that the line voltage is within ±10% of the nameplate rated voltage while the motor runs. Contact your power company if the variation exceeds this range. * Reconnect the power supply wires to match the wiring diagram in the submersible motor control cover, ensuring the wire color code matches the moto...

Why does my Flotec Submersible Pumps start too frequently?
    • J
      Jody DonovanNov 4, 2025
If your Flotec Water Pump is starting too frequently, consider these possible causes: * Check for leaks in the system, using soapsuds on all tank connections to find air leaks. The system must be air and water tight, and the plumbing should be inspected for leaks. * Inspect the pressure switch for defects or incorrect adjustment. Readjust or replace the pressure switch as needed. * Ensure check valves are not leaking back. Replace them if necessary. * For waterlogged tanks, pre-charge them by adjusting the air pressure to 2 PSI (13.8 kPa) less than the pump cut-in pressure when there is no water pressure on the system. Replace the bladder if needed. * For air over water tanks, check for air leaks and repair or replace tanks. Replace the AVC if necessary. * Check for a leak in ...

What causes little or no water delivery from my Flotec Water Pump?
    • M
      miguelwebbNov 13, 2025
If your Flotec Water Pump is delivering little or no water, consider these potential causes: * A check valve might be stuck or installed backward (standard tank only). Examine the valve; free it if stuck, or reverse it if installed backward. * The water level might be low. Lower the pump further into the well, ensuring it's at least 5' (1.5M) above the bottom. Throttle the pump discharge until it equals the well's recovery rate. * Low voltage could be the issue. Check the voltage at the submersible motor control while the pump is running. Install a larger wire from the meter to the submersible motor control. If needed, have the power company raise the supply voltage. * The intake screen might be plugged. Pull the pump and inspect the screen, cleaning or replacing it as necessary. ...

Why does my Flotec Submersible Pumps blow fuses or trip the overload protector when the motor is running?
    • N
      Nicole WalkerNov 19, 2025
If your Flotec Water Pump is blowing fuses or tripping the overload protector while the motor is running, here are some possible causes: * Check for low or high voltage. Ensure the line voltage is within ±10% of the rated nameplate voltage while the motor runs. Contact the power company to adjust the voltage if the variation exceeds this range. * High ambient (atmospheric) temperature might be the issue. Check the temperature of the submersible motor control and avoid mounting it in direct sunlight. * The submersible motor control might have the wrong voltage or horsepower rating. Compare the voltage and horsepower on the motor nameplate with those on the submersible motor control nameplate. Replace the submersible motor control if the numbers don't match, using only a submersible m...

Summary

Pre-Installation

Electrical Wiring and Grounding

Installation Wiring Instructions

Single Phase 3 Wire

3-Wire pumps have three power supply wires (Red/Black/Yellow) and one ground wire (Green).

Single Phase 2 Wire

2-Wire pumps have two power supply wires (Red/Black) and one ground wire (Green).

Installation

Wire Splicing

Splice wire to motor leads. Use only copper wire for connections to pump motor and control box.

Power Supply Wire Installation

Fasten power supply wire leads securely to pump discharge section; leave slack in leads.

Pump Installation

Initial Start-Up and New Wells

Follow procedure for starting pump for the first time to avoid sand-locking and ensure proper operation.

Connecting to Tank and Water System

Install a pressure relief valve to prevent tank blowup due to high pressure.

Pre-Charged Pressure Tank Hookup

Connect piping to pre-charged tank. Check and adjust tank air pre-charge before starting pump.

Standard Tank Hookup

Connect piping to standard pressure tank. Ensure correct placement of bleeder orifices from pressure tank.

Important Electrical Grounding Information

Bond all accessible metal parts at the well head to reduce shock risk. Ground pump, motor, and conduit.
