Overview

The Follett Symphony Plus ice and water dispensers are designed to provide reliable ice and water service with a strong emphasis on sanitation, ease of maintenance, and energy efficiency. These dispensers are available in over 30 different models, including freestanding, countertop, and wall-mount configurations, to suit various application needs.

Function Description

The primary function of the Symphony Plus dispenser is to produce and dispense Chewblet ice, a patient-preferred ice type, along with water. The ice-making process is supported by high-performance ice-making technology, featuring an industry-exclusive stainless steel jacketed evaporator. This design eliminates wrapped refrigerant tubing, solder, and air gaps, which maximizes heat transfer and ice-making capacity. The evaporator's corrosion-resistant design ensures durability even with aggressive water conditions. A cutter-style stainless steel auger with a helix profile cleanly cuts ice film from the inner wall of the evaporator with minimal radial loading. Form-fitting evaporator insulation further reduces condensation and maximizes efficiency.

The dispensers offer various dispense options, including SensorSAFE™ infrared ice dispense or a one-hand lever dispense. The SensorSAFE™ infrared dispense is particularly beneficial as it reduces the chance of cross-contamination, enhancing hygiene. The units are constructed with a stainless steel cabinet and accent trim, providing a clean and professional appearance suitable for healthcare environments.

Usage Features

The Symphony Plus dispensers are designed for user convenience and safety. The SensorSAFE™ infrared dispense option allows for touchless operation, which is crucial in environments where hygiene is paramount. Alternatively, the one-hand lever dispense provides a traditional, easy-to-use method for ice and water retrieval. The patient-preferred Chewblet ice is a key feature, offering a soft, chewable ice that is often preferred by patients.

An intuitive control board with LED diagnostics simplifies operation and maintenance. This user-friendly interface provides instant status updates, making it easy to monitor the dispenser's performance and identify any issues. The control board displays various statuses such as "Cleaner full," "HI pressure," "Hi amps," "Service," "Maint/Clean," "Low water," "Time delay," "Sleep cycle," "Making ice," "Low bin," and "Power ON," offering comprehensive insights into the machine's operation.

For quiet environments, the Quiet Night™ sleep mode is a valuable feature. This mode reduces the number of compressor starts, especially overnight, thereby minimizing noise disruption. The system also incorporates optimal staging of the fan and gearmotor to mask compressor noise during startup, further contributing to a peaceful environment.

Maintenance Features

Sanitation and serviceability are core aspects of the Symphony Plus design. The dispensers incorporate several features to ensure a high level of hygiene and ease of maintenance.

Sanitation Features:

  • Automatic Self-Flushing: The ice machine automatically self-flushes twice after every hour of compressor run time. This process removes mineral-laden water and impurities, leading to better-tasting ice, reduced maintenance, and increased reliability.
  • Innovative Drain Cup System: The drain cup consolidates all independent component drain lines, improving drain line pitch. It provides an air break to prevent drain water from coming into contact with key ice and water dispenser components in the event of a drain clog. The drain cup is also easily removable for cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Antimicrobial Product Protection: Key ice and water contact components, including bin liners, bin agitation wheels, water reservoirs, drain lines, drain pans, drain grilles, and ice and water chutes, are treated with EPA, FDA, and NSF-approved Agion® silver-based antimicrobial protection. This silver inhibits microbial growth by disrupting the cell functions of bacteria, viruses, yeasts, molds, and fungi, thereby helping to protect the dispensers from biological growth. It's important to note that this protection is limited to the treated components and does not treat water or ice.
  • Semi-Automatic Cleaning and Sanitizing: The ice machine can be cleaned and sanitized in less than an hour through a semi-automatic process. This involves pressing a clean switch to purge water, filling a cleaning cup with ice machine cleaner, and then sanitizing the ice transport tube with Follett SaniSponges™. While the ice machine cleans itself, the dispenser can be manually cleaned and sanitized with the remaining solution.
  • Pressurized Water Line Sanitizing: Follett offers pressurized water sanitizing kits for the internal pressurized water lines. This process, when performed in conjunction with the standard cleaning/sanitizing, ensures a complete sanitization of the entire ice and water dispenser.

Serviceability Features:

  • Common Ice Machine Modules: Symphony Plus ice and water dispensers and replacement modules share the same ice machine components. This standardization reduces spare parts inventory and simplifies troubleshooting. A single module fits all 25, 50, and 110 Series countertop, wall mount, and freestanding Symphony Plus and Symphony™ dispensers shipped after March 2001. Replacing the ice machine module is a cost-effective solution, saving approximately 40% over replacing the entire ice and water dispenser. The machine can even dispense ice from the hopper when the ice machine module is removed, allowing for continued service during maintenance.
  • Easy Access to Technical Support: A QR code label located under the front cover of Symphony Plus dispensers provides quick access to all technical information, simplifying troubleshooting and support.
  • Comprehensive Support Program: Follett offers an unmatched service and support program, including a 3-year parts and labor warranty (5 years on the compressor), 7-day toll-free factory direct technical support, free local technical service seminars, online training modules, comprehensive manuals, and 10-year service part support for discontinued models.

These features collectively ensure that the Symphony Plus dispensers are not only efficient in producing ice and water but also easy to maintain, highly sanitary, and reliable for long-term use in demanding environments.
