WARNING - RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK
Have an electrician provide electrical power to the motor.
Motor must be grounded and terminal cover in place to
reduce electrical shock hazard.
Keep motor operating area as dry as possible.
A ground fault interrupter (GFI) protected circuit is
recommended for use with any electrical device operating
near water.
Always disconnect power before servicing.
Not investigated for use in swimming pool areas.
SAFETY WARNINGS
BEFORE OPERATING OR
INSTALLING THIS PUMP, READ
THIS MANUAL AND FOLLOW
ALL SAFETY RULES AND
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.
WARNING - ELECTRICAL PRECAUTIONS
All wiring, electrical connections, and system grounding must
comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and with any local
codes and ordinances. Employ a licensed electrician. For non-
thermally protected motors use with approved motor control that
matches motor input in full load amperes with overload element(s)
selected or adjusted in accordance with control instructions.
CAUTION
DO NOT OPERATE THIS PUMP DRY!
Review instructions before operating.
SAFETY
CAREFULLY READ THESE SAFETY
MESSAGES IN THIS MANUAL AND ON PUMP.
APPLICATION
This pump is suitable for installations where the vertical distance
from the pump to the water level does not exceed 25 ft.
In all installations, friction losses in the suction pipe must be
taken into consideration.
PERFORMANCE
INSTALLATION
be increased by one size. The suction pipe must always slope
upwards from the water source to the pump to avoid air pockets in
the line. In cases where the pump has to be reprimed often and it
is not necessary that a lot of water be delivered, it is advisable to
use a 90° or 45° elbow on the suction line. This enables the pump
to prime sooner and also prevents kinking of the hose. In cases
where a maximum volume of water is required over a pro-
longed period of time, the suction line should be led almost hori-
zontally
to the pump. Non-toxic thread compound should be used
on all pipe joints and connections should be thoroughly tightened.
A strainer should be connected to the bottom end of the suction
pipe and it should be well submerged at all times.
FOR DUAL VOLTAGE MOTORS
Voltage change instructions are located on motor label or on
wiring access cover.

Self-Priming Sprinkler Pump
PUMP LOCATION: The pump should be installed in a clean, dry
and ventilated location which provides adequate drainage and
room for servicing and protection from freezing temperatures. It
should be bolted down evenly on a good foundation, preferably
concrete, to prevent the
development of unnecessary stress.
Locating the pump as close as possible to the source of water
supply reduces the
friction losses in the suction pipe and provides
for maximum capacities.
SUCTION PIPE: It is
recommended that only new clean pipe
or hose be used and the size be the same as that of the pump
suction tapping. If the pump is installed any appreciable distance
away from the source of water supply, the suction pipe should

What to do if Franklin Electric Turf Boss Water Pump is not pumping?
    • G
      gortizAug 5, 2025
If your Franklin Electric Water Pump isn't pumping, it could be due to several reasons. First, ensure the pump casing and suction line are completely full of water, following the priming instructions. Another potential cause is insufficient speed. To address this, a licensed electrician should check the voltage at the motor terminals and at the meter while the pump is running, after ensuring compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes. Also, inspect for loose connections. It's also possible the pump is not designed for the total head required, in which case a pump designed for a higher head is needed. Lastly, the suction lift might be too great; try moving the pump closer to the water source and ensuring the suction piping is adequately sized.

What to do if Franklin Electric Turf Boss Water Pump loses prime?
    • J
      joynielsenAug 19, 2025
If your Franklin Electric Water Pump loses prime, there are a few potential reasons. Begin by inspecting the suction line for any air leaks. Also, excessive lift or operating too near the shut-off point can cause this issue; try moving the pump closer to the water level. Another cause could be the water level dropping while pumping, which uncovers the suction piping. To resolve this, check the water supply and add a length of pipe to the suction to ensure the submerged end stays underwater.

How to fix mechanical troubles and noise in Franklin Electric Turf Boss?
    • J
      Joseph MilesAug 27, 2025
Mechanical troubles and noise in your Franklin Electric Water Pump can arise from a couple of sources. A bent shaft or damaged bearings could be the cause, requiring you to take the motor to an authorized motor repair shop. Also, check that the suction and/or discharge piping is properly supported and anchored to relieve strain on the pump assembly.

Why Franklin Electric Turf Boss has reduced capacity?
    • C
      Candice BuchananNov 11, 2025
Reduced capacity and/or head in your Franklin Electric Water Pump can stem from several causes. Start by checking the suction piping for air pockets or leaks. A clogged impeller can also be the culprit, requiring you to remove and clean it. Similarly, inspect the strainer; it might be too small or clogged, necessitating a larger strainer or cleaning. Ensure sufficient submergence of the suction line by adding lengths of suction pipe so the submerged end is well below the water surface. If the suction lift is excessive, enlarge the piping if friction is the cause, or move the pump closer to the water level. It's also possible the pump is not designed for the total head required, in which case a pump designed for a higher head is needed. Finally, an excessively worn impeller might be the iss...
