Checkthe emergency equipment to make
sure that it is accessible, completeand
ready for use, for example:

Fireextinguisher

At regular intervals, check that thefirst-aid
kit is usable. Notethe use-by datesofthe
contents.

Havethe fireextinguisher checked every
onetotwo years.

The fireextinguisher must be refilled after
each use.
In somecountries, it is alegal requirement to
carry additional emergency equipment on
board,e.g.abreathalyser.Observethe legal
requirementsregardingemergency equipment
for thecountryyou are currently in. Supple-
mentyour emergency equipment accordingly.
Checking thefuel/DEF level

Checking theengine oil level
Checkthe engine oil levelbefore thestart of
everyjourney (Y page 80). The engine oil level
is notdisplayedwhile driving.
Ignition lock

WARNING
If you switch off theignition while driving,
safety-relevantfunctionsare only available
with limitations,ornot at all. This can affect
thepower steering and thebrakeboosting
effect,for example. You will require consid-
erablymoreeffort to steer and brake. There
is arisk of an accident.
Do notswitch off theignition while driving.

If you attach heavyorlarge objectstothe
SmartKey, theSmartKey couldbeuninten-
tionally turned in theignition lock. This
couldcausethe engine to be switched off.

Do notattach any heavyorlarge objectsto
theSmartKey. Removeany bulkykey rings
before inserting theSmartKey intothe igni-
tionlock.

SmartKey with you and lockthe vehicle.
