You can use theaccelerator pedalposition to
actively influencethe shift point:
R
lightthrottle application:early upshift
R
heavythrottle application:lateupshift
R
kickdown:maximum upshift delayand
extremely early downshift
Kickdown gearshifting
Use kickdown to increase performanceand,if
necessary, formaximum vehicle acceleration.
X
Depress theaccelerator pedalpast thepres-
surepointtothe stop.
The automatic transmissionshiftsdown to a

If you havelimited theshift range, make
surethatthe enginespeed doesnot rise
into thered danger zone of thetachometer.
Exceedingthe limitingspeed foranexten-
ded period can lead to enginedamage.
Whendrivingonextremeuphill gradientsor

X
Control thevehicle'sspeed by measured
application of thebrakes.
X
Depress theaccelerator moderately and
steadily.
i
You can shift backand forthbetween drive
position h and reversegear k at low
speeds without applyingthe brakes. This
helps when manoeuvringrapidly or when
rockingthe vehicle out of snow or slush, for
example.

doesnot pay attention when pulling away or
accelerating. ASRisonlyanaid. You should
always adapt your drivingstyle to suit prevail-
ingroadand weather conditions.
ASRconsiderably improves traction,i.e.power
transmissionbetween thetires and theroad
surface, and therefore also improves thevehi-
cle's drivingstability. ASRassistswithpulling
