may not warn you or intervene in these sit-
uations. There is arisk of an accident.
Always pay careful attention to the traffic
situation and be ready to brake.

The distancecontrol assistant cannot
alwaysclearly identifyother road users and
complex traffic situations.
In such cases, the distancecontrol assistant
can:

give an unnecessary warning and then
brake the vehicle
R
neither give awarning nor intervene
R
accelerateorbrake unexpectedly
There is arisk of an accident.
Continue to drive carefully and be ready to
brake, especially if the distancecontrol
assistant warns you.

WARNING
The distancecontrol assistant brakes your
vehicle with up to 30% of the maximum pos-
sible deceleration.Ifthis deceleration is
insufficient, distancecontrol assistant
issues an audible and visual warning. There
is arisk of an accident.
In these cases, apply the brakes yourself
and try to take evasive action.
Observe the safety warnings detailing situa-
tions in which vehicles in frontmay not be
detected correctly (Y page 131).
The distancecontrol assistant may not detect
narrow vehicles driving in front, e.g. motorcy-
cles, and vehicles driving on adifferentline.
In particular, be aware of the following driving
situations:

Cornering, entering and exitingbends
R
Your own vehicle driving on adifferentline
or vehicles in frontofyou driving on adiffer-
ent line
R
Other vehicles changinglane
R
Vehicles turning off
R
Overtaking
R
Winding stretches of road
R
Obstacles and stationary vehicles
Clean the distancesensor of the distancecon-
trol assistant (Y page 157).
If you fail to adapt your driving style or if you
are inattentive, the distancecontrol assistant
can neither reduce the risk of an accident nor
override the laws of physics. The distancecon-
trol assistant cannot take the road and
weather conditions into account,nor the pre-
vailing traffic situation.The distancecontrol
assistant is only an aid. You are responsible
for the distancetothe vehicle in front, for
vehicle speed, braking in good time and
remaininginlane. Always adapt your driving
style to the prevailing road and weather condi-
tions and maintain asufficient, safe distance
from other road users.
