Do not usethe distance controlassistant:

on slippery roads.The drive wheels may
lose their gripwhenbraking or accelerating
and the vehiclemay skid.

when there is lowvisibility,e.g.due to fog,
heavyrainorsnow.
If the distance controlassistant no longer
detects avehicledrivinginfront, the distance
controlassistant mayaccelerate to the stored
speed. On afilter lane or asliproad, this
speedmay be too high.

When avehiclehas been detectedup
ahead, the on-board computeralsodisplays
its speedand the distance to the detected
vehicle.

The AssistanceAssistance menu windowalsodis-
playsthe speedofthe detectedvehicleand
the distance to the detectedvehicleinthe
à Driving menu (Y page 76).
Activating
Functions and activationconditions
The distance controlassistant controls the
speedand supports youinautomaticallymain-
taining the distance fromavehicledetectedin
front. If there is no vehicleinfront, the dis-
tance controlassistant operates in the same
wayascruisecontrolinthe speedrange
between 9and 56 mph (15 and 90 km/h).
If the distance controlassistant detects avehi-
cle in front drivingataslower speed, your
vehicleisslowed and the specifiedminimum
distance selectedbyyou is maintained.
The distance controlassistant brakes the vehi-
cle with the continuous brake if:
R
the vehicleexceedsthe set speed, including
the set speedtolerance, e.g.onadownhill
gradient
R
aslower vehicleinfront is detected
When the continuous brake slowsthe vehicle,
the à indicator lamp lights up in the instru-
ment cluster.
The distance controlassistant mayalsobrake
the vehicleusing the servicebrake in order to
maintain the specifiedminimumdistance. If
the vehicleinfront is no longerdetected, e.g.
if it changeslane, your vehiclewillaccelerate
up to the set speed.
The distance controlassistant cannotbeacti-
vated or is deactivated automaticallyif:
R
youare drivingslower than9mph
(15 km/h)
R
youshift the transmission into neutralfor
morethanapproximately fiveseconds
R
youdepress the brake pedal
R
youselect the reversegear
R
for vehicles with airsuspension, the chassis
is not withinthe drivinglevel
R
there is amalfunctioninthe brake system
or in the electronics
R
the distance sensor initialization is not yet
complete
If the distance controlassistant is deactivated
automatically, awarning tone sounds.
