If the distance control assistant cannot be
activated, the on-board computer willdisplay

The distance control assistant remains activa-
ted if:

you decelerate using the continuous brake
R
it decelerates the vehicle using the continu-
ous brake or the service brake and you
simultaneouslydepressthe brake pedal
If yourvehicle accelerates and you depress
the brake pedal, the distance control assistant
is deactivated automatically.

Press the é button repeatedly until the
on-board computer shows the É symbol
in gray.
If you change from cruise control to the dis-
tance control assistant and the distance con-
trol assistant was activated earlier, the É
symbolappears in white in the on-board dis-
play. The distance control assistant is activa-
ted. The vehicle adapts its speed to that of the
vehicle in front, but only up to the desiredand
set speed.
Activating when driving

Drive at aspeed above 9mph (15 km/h).

Select the distance control assistant.

Briefly press the Ñ button.
The distance control assistant is activated
and the current speed is set.

The distance control assistant is activated
and the last stored speed is set.
The on-board computer shows the É

Release the accelerator pedal.
The vehicle adapts its speed to that of the
vehicle in front, but only up to the desired

Setting the speed tolerance
By setting the speed tolerance, you define by
how much the set speed may be exceeded
(Y page 127).
Setting aspecified distance to the vehi-
cle in front
The minimum distance for the distance control
assistant can be set to 5levels. If you restart
the engine, the mean specifieddistance is
available for selection.
Make sure that you maintain the minimum dis-
tance to the vehicle in front required by law.
Adjust the specifiedminimum distance to the
vehicle in front if necessary.

Press the Ù button repeatedly until the
ACC distanceACC distance input window appears in the
on-board computer.

Press the r or s button to reduce/
increase the specifiedminimum distance.
The bar display shows the specifiedmini-
mum distance you have selected.

Press the 9 button to exit the input win-
dow.

Waitfor approximately three seconds.
