Driving
Collision warnings
If acollision warningisgiven,ayellowevent
window withthe · symbol appears in the
on-boardcomputer. Adouble warningtone
also sounds. The event window is displayedfor
as longasthe hazardous situation persists.
If acollision warningappears in theon-board
computerwhen thevehicle is in motion:

Pay particular attention to thetraffic situa-
tion.
X
Slow down thevehicle usingthe service
brake.
If you depress theaccelerator pedalorindi-
cateaturn, thecollision warningtoneissup-
pressed.
Overtaking
It is possible to exceed theset speed, e.g.
when overtaking:
X
Maintain asufficientdistancetothe vehicle
in front.
X
Depress theaccelerator pedal.
X
Whenthe overtakingmaneuver is finished,
release theaccelerator pedalagain.
The distancecontrol assistant adjuststhe
speed to theset speed.

Observethe notesonparticular drivingsitua-
tionsunder "Active BrakeAssist"
(Y page 131).
Deactivating
The speed remainsstoredifyou deactivatethe
distancecontrol assistant.

symbol and theset speed in gray.

Using the È button, selectthe speed lim-
iter.

observethe conditionslisted that lead to auto-
matic deactivation of thedistancecontrol
assistant (Y page 125).
Speed tolerance in thedrivingsys-
tems
The speed tolerancedefines forcruise control
and forthe distancecontrol assistant by how
muchthe set speed may be exceeded. The
speed tolerancehelps to betterutilizemomen-
tumfromdownhill gradientsand thus save
fuel.
The speed tolerancecan be set to between 1
and 9mph (2 and 15 km/h).
If you set thespeed tolerancetobetween 2
and 9mph (4 and 15 km/h) thevalueremains
saved evenafter you restart theengine.
The on-boardcomputershows thespeed toler-
ancealongside theset speed, e.g.
30 miles/h30 miles/h

.Whencruise controlorthe dis-
tancecontrol assistant is activated, thespeed
limiter brakesthe vehicle by 2mph (4 km/h)
by applying the continuous brake, regardless
of the set speed tolerance.
