black lane markings: Lane Keeping Assist is
deactivated

gray lane markings: Lane Keeping Assist is
activated, but is not ready to issue warnings
on the side of the vehicle in question

white lane markings: Lane Keeping Assist is
activated and ready to issue warningson
the side of the vehicle in question

red lane markings: Lane Keeping Assist is
activated and is issuing awarning on the
side of the vehicle in question
Functions and activation conditions
Lane Keeping Assist monitors the area in front
of your vehicle with acamera that is on the
base of the windshield. When Lane Keeping
Assist is activated and it detects lane mark-
ings on the road surface, it warns you that you
may be leaving your lane unintentionally.
Lane Keeping Assist is ready to issue warn-
ings:
R
from aspeed of approximately 40 mph
(60km/h)
R
when thelane markings appear in whitein
theon-board computer
When you driveover thelane marking uninten-
tionally:
R
therelevant lane marking is shown in red in
theon-board computer
R
thevolumeofthe audio equipment and/or
hands-freesystem is reduced and awarning
tonesounds fromthe loudspeaker on the
corresponding side of thevehicle
If thevehicle is not fully within thelane mark-
ings after awarning has been issued, no fur-
ther warnings are possible.
LaneKeepingAssist does not issue awarning
if:
R
you have switchedonthe turnsignals
R
you explicitly and actively steer, brakeor
accelerate
R
adriving safetysystem intervenes, e.g.
ActiveBrake Assist,StabilityControl Assist
or thedistancecontrol assistant
The warnings are then suppressed for acer-
tain timeperiod.
LaneKeepingAssist will warn you when
changing lane if aturnsignal has been
switchedonfor morethanone minute.
Deactivating or activating
When you start theengine, LaneKeeping
Assist is automatically activated.

Pressthe m button.
If LaneKeepingAssist is deactivated, the
indicator lamp in the m button lightsup.
The lane marking appears black in thesta-
tus area of theon-board computerand in
the AssistanceAssistance menuwindowinthe on-
board computer.

If you operate information systems and com-
munication equipment integrated in the
vehicle when driving, you may be distracted
fromthe traffic situation.You could also
lose control of thevehicle. Thereisarisk of
an accident.
Only operate this equipment when thetraffic
situation permits.Ifyou are not sure that
this is possible, park thevehicle paying
attention to traffic conditions and operate
theequipment when thevehicle is station-
ary.
BlindSpotAssist includes four cameras and
one monitor. It substitutes thefront mirror and
also displays images of theimmediate sur-
roundingsofthe vehicle. BlindSpotAssist is
only an aid. The cameras may show adistorted
view of obstacles,show them incorrectly or
not at all. BlindSpotAssist is not asubstitute
for your attention to theimmediate surround-
ings.
You are responsible for safe maneuvering and
parking. When maneuvering and parking, make
sure that there are no persons,animals or
objectsinthe maneuvering area.
You are always responsible for safety, and
must always pay attention to your surround-
ings when parking and maneuvering. This
applies to theareas behind, in front of and
beside thevehicle. You could otherwise
endangeryourselfand others.
