Vehicleswithout accelerationskidcontrol
(ASR): quick changesfromslipperytohigh
gripsurfaces whilst the drive wheels are
spinning can resultindamagetothe differ-
ential gear system. For thisreason, avoid
wheelspinofthe drive wheels.
Please observe the following instructions on
driving in winter:

in snow, slushand on icy roads,fit snow
chains to the drive wheels in good time
R
adaptyourdriving style to the wintry road
conditions
R
if tractionproblems occurwhendriving with
snowchains,deactivate ASR (Y page 116)
or the Stability Control Assist (Y page 117)
R
if your vehicleisequippedwithrotation
chains,activate the rotationchains (see the
separate Operating Instructions)
Snow chains

WARNING
If youdrive too fast with snowchains moun-
ted,theymay snap. As aresult, youcould
injure others and damage the vehicle. There
is ariskofanaccident.
Observe the maximum permissiblespeed for
operationwithsnowchains.

Onlyuse snowchains which areapproved
and recommended for FreightlinerTrucks. In
thisway,you will avoidvehicledamage.

Do not fitsnowchains to the front axleof
the vehicle. Youcould otherwisedamage
parts of the vehicle.
Thelaw mayrequire thatsnowchains be
removedassoonaspossibleonce the roadis
clear of snow. Thevehicle'sdriving and brak-
ing characteristics will be adversely affected if
youdrive on roads thatare clear of snowwith
snowchains fitted to the vehicle.
Observe the notesofthe snowchain manufac-
turer on the maximum permissiblespeed for
operationwithsnowchains.
Due to legalrequirements in individualcoun-
tries,there maybeslightdeviations fromthe
description in these Operating Instructions
regarding the useofsnowchains.Whenusing
snowchains,observe the legalrequirements
of the country in which youare currently driv-
ing.
