These Operating Instructionsdescribe all the
models and standard and optional equipment
of your vehicle that were available at the time
of going to print.Country-specific deviations
are possible. Bear in mind that your vehicle
may not be equipped with all the functions
described. This also applies to safety-relevant
systemsand functions.

Regularchecking of wheels and tires
Tires are of particular importance to the oper-
ating and road safetyofthe vehicle.
Regularly checkthe following:
R
tire pressure
R
tire tread
R
tire condition
Atire dealer, aqualified specialist workshop or
any Freightliner servicecenter will be able to
provide further information about the:
R
tire load-bearingcapacity(LI, Load Index)
R
tire speed rating(maximum permissible
speed of the tire)
R
tire age
R
causes and consequences of tire wear
R
measures to be taken in the eventoftire
damage
R
types of tire for specific regions, areas of
operationorconditionsofvehicle use
R
interchangeability of tires,etc.
Tirepressures

WARNING
Underinflated or overinflated tires pose the
following risks:
R
the tires may burst, especially as the load
and vehicle speed increase.
R
the tires may wear excessively and/or
unevenly, which may greatly impair tire
traction.
R
the drivingcharacteristics, as well as
steering and braking, may be greatly
impaired.
There is arisk of an accident.
Follow recommendedtire inflation pressures
and checkthe pressure of all the tires
includingthe spare wheel:
R
monthly, at least
R
if the load changes
R
before beginning along journey
R
under different operatingconditions, e.g.
off-road driving
If necessary, correct the tire pressure.

WARNING
The tire temperature and pressure increase
when the vehicle is in motion. If you reduce
the tire pressure in hot tires are warm, the
tire pressure will be too low when the tires
are cold. Tire pressure that is too low can
cause the tire to burst, in particular if the
vehicle is heavily laden or at high speeds.
There is arisk of an accident.
Never reduce the tire pressure in hot tires.
Observethe prescribed tire pressures.
Beforestarting your journey, checkthe speci-
fied tire pressures while the tires are cold.
If the tire pressure is too low, it leads to:
R
excessive build-up of heat in the tires
R
increased tire wear
R
altered drivingstability
R
increased fuel consumption
