EPA NoiseEmission Control Label
Example
The label relating to noise emission control is
on theB-pillar on thedriver'sside. The owner
of thevehicle is responsible for maintaining
thevehicle suchthatthe directives of theUni-
tedStatesEnvironmental Protection Agency
(EPA) are adhered to.
Some uncompleted Freightlinerbrandvehicles
may notbeequippedwith full provision for
noise control. Vehiclesofthistype therefore
have alabel whichisnot completed with infor-

vehicles, thefinal-stagemanufacturer must
makesure that thevehicle is completed
according to theEPA directives (CFR 40,sec-

Certified Clean Idle Label
Example
The California Air Resources Board(CARB)
requires that vehicleswith dieselengines
designed for heavy-dutyoperationbeequip-
ped with anon-programmable automatic shut-

constructionyear 2008.
The automatic shutoff switches off theengine
after fiveminutesofrunninginidle and
therebyreduces theemission of particulates
and nitrogen oxides. Certified vehiclesare fur-
nished with alabel locatednear thelower
edge of thedriver'sdoor.
