In somecountries, certain parts areonlyoffi-
ciallyapproved for installationormodification
if they comply with legalrequirements. All gen-
uine Mercedes-Benz/DTNA parts satisfy these
requirements. Make sure thatthe parts are
suitablefor your vehicle.

Data stored in the vehicle
Electronic controlunits
Electroniccontrolunits areinstalledinyour
vehicle. Some of theseare necessary for the
safe operationofyourvehicle, whilesome
assist youwhendriving (driver assistance sys-
tems). In addition, your vehicleprovides com-
fort and entertainment functions, which are
also made possiblebyelectronic controlunits.
Electroniccontrolunits contain data memories
which can temporarilyorpermanentlystore
technicalinformationabout the vehicle's oper-
ating state, component loads, maintenance
requirements and technicalevents or malfunc-
tions.
In general, thisinformationdocuments the
state of acomponent part, amodule, asystem
or the surroundings such as:
R
operating statuses of system components
(e.g. fluid levels, battery status,tire pres-
sure)
R
status messages concerning the vehicleand
its individual components (e.g. numberof
wheelrevolutions/speed,deceleration, lat-
eralacceleration, display of the fastened
seatbelts)
R
malfunctions or defects in important system
components (e.g. lights,brakes)
R
informationonvehicledamageevents
R
system reactions in specialdriving situa-
tions (e.g. airbag deployment, intervention
of stability controlsystems)
R
ambient conditions (e.g. temperature,rain
sensor)
In additiontoproviding the actual controlunit
function, thisdataassists the manufacturer in
detecting and rectifying malfunctions and opti-
mizing vehiclefunctions. The majority of this
data is temporary and is onlyprocessed in the
vehicleitself. Onlyasmall portionofthe data
is stored in the event or fault memory.
Whenservice work is done on your vehicle, the
technicaldatafrom the vehiclecan be read
outbyservice network staff (e.g. workshops,
manufacturer)orthird parties(e.g. breakdown
services). Servicesincluderepairservices,
maintenance processes,warranty events and
quality assurance measures,for example. The
readout is performed via the legallyprescri-
bedportfor the diagnostics connectioninthe
vehicle. The respective service network loca-
tions or third partiescollect, processand use
the data. Theydocument technicalstatuses of
the vehicle, assist in finding malfunctions and
improving quality and aretransmittedtothe
manufacturer,ifnecessary.Furthermore,the
manufacturer is subject to product liability.For
