Overview

This document is a Use & Care manual for a Frigidaire Electric Range, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Frigidaire Electric Range is a cooking appliance designed for both surface cooking and oven baking/roasting. It features radiant surface elements on a ceramic glass cooktop and a multi-functional oven with various cooking modes.

Surface Cooking: The cooktop includes single radiant surface elements and, on some models, a dual radiant surface element and a bridge element. These elements provide heat for cooking with cookware. The warmer zone is designed to keep hot, cooked foods at serving temperature.

Oven Cooking: The oven offers multiple cooking modes:

  • BAKE: Standard baking function for general cooking.
  • POWERPLUS™ PREHEAT: A feature that uses the convection fan to quickly bring the oven to the set temperature, ideal for single rack items.
  • CLEAN: A self-cleaning cycle that heats the oven to high temperatures to burn off food soils, reducing them to ash.
  • CONVECT BAKE: Uses a convection fan to circulate heat uniformly for faster, more even cooking and browning, suitable for multiple rack baking.
  • CONVECT ROAST: Designed for cooking tender cuts of beef, lamb, pork, and poultry, using convection to brown exteriors and seal in juices.
  • BROIL: Uses intense top heat for searing and browning.
  • KEEP WARM: Maintains a temperature of 170°F (77°C) to keep baked foods at serving temperature.
  • Sabbath Feature: Special settings for use during Jewish Sabbath/Holidays, disabling audible tones and visual display changes, and allowing the oven to remain on until cancelled.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Oven Temperature Range: 170°F (77°C) to 550°F (288°C) for most cooking modes.
  • Meat Probe Temperature Range: 140°F (60°C) to 210°F (99°C).
  • Timer Range: 0:01 Hr to 11:59 Hr.
  • Clock (12hr) Range: 1:00 Hr to 12:59 Hr.
  • Self-Clean Cycle Durations: 2, 3, or 4 hours, depending on soil level.
  • Power Supply: Requires a 240V grounded wall receptacle and a 4-prong grounding plug.
  • Oven Rack Types: Flat oven racks, offset oven racks (some models), and fully extendable glide racks.
  • Radiant Surface Element Limiter: Cycles on and off even at HI setting to prevent damage to the ceramic smooth top.
  • Convection Convert: Automatically converts standard baking recipes for convection baking.
  • User Programmable Offset (UPO): Allows adjustment of oven temperature by ± 35°F.

Usage Features

  • Dual Radiant Surface Element: Accommodates 9-inch or 12-inch cookware, useful for canning or heating large amounts of water.
  • Bridge Element (some models): Allows for a larger cooking area by cycling at the same temperature as the left front element, requiring both front and rear controls to be on.
  • Warmer Zone: Keeps hot, cooked foods at serving temperature using a pre-set temperature.

Oven Controls:

  • Oven Mode Selector: Dial to choose cooking modes (BAKE, POWERPLUS PREHEAT, CLEAN, CONVECT BAKE, CONVECT ROAST, BROIL, KEEP WARM).

Maintenance Features

General Cleaning:

  • Cool-Down Requirement: All controls must be turned off and the appliance cool before manual cleaning.
  • Control Panel: Clean with a soft cloth, mild dish detergent, and water or a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. Avoid excessive water, abrasive cleaners, or scouring pads.
  • Control Knobs: Removable for cleaning with soap and water.
  • Stainless Steel: Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chlorides, chlorine, or ammonia.
  • Porcelain Enamel (Broiler Pan, Oven Interior, Door Liner): Clean with soapy scouring pads, clear water and ammonia solution for difficult spots.
  • Oven Racks: Remove from oven cavity and clean with a mild, abrasive cleaner.
  • Oven Door: Clean top, sides, and front with soap and water. Glass cleaner can be used on outside glass. Do not immerse the door in water or spray into vents.
  • Oven Door Gasket: Do not clean, rub, damage, or remove; essential for a good seal.

Ceramic Cooktop Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: Use a ceramic cooktop cleaner and a paper towel or non-abrasive cleaning pad.
  • Spills: Wipe spills on a hot cooking area with caution to avoid steam burns.
  • Scratches: Avoid sharp objects.
  • Melted Materials: Do not allow aluminum foil or other meltable materials to contact the cooktop, as they can damage it.
  • Heavy/Hard Objects: Avoid dropping on the cooktop to prevent cracking.
  • Cookware: Use flat-bottomed, clean cookware. Lift cookware instead of sliding to prevent scratches.

Oven Interior Light Bulbs:

  • Replacement: Halogen appliance bulbs, located at the rear of the oven cavity. Requires turning off electrical power, removing the glass cover, and replacing the bulb.

Glide Racks Maintenance:

  • Lubrication: Apply graphite lubrication to the insides of the loading guides and a thin layer of vegetable oil to the bottom of the "V" and glide channels after every fresh-clean cycle or when movement becomes difficult.
  • Cleaning: Wipe away debris and crumbs from the glide track with a cloth or sponge.

Self-Cleaning Oven:

  • Preparation: Remove all oven racks, broiler pan, utensils, food, and aluminum foil before starting the cycle. Wipe up excessive spills.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the room is well-ventilated, especially if birds are present, as fumes can be sensitive.
  • Door: Do not force open during or immediately after the cycle.

Troubleshooting:

  • The manual includes a "Solutions to Common Problems" section to help diagnose and resolve common issues related to baking, cooktop operation, and general appliance function.
