Function Description

The Frigidaire Gas Range is a kitchen appliance designed for cooking food using both surface burners and an oven. It offers various cooking functions including baking and broiling, and features gas surface burners with different BTU ratings for diverse cooking needs. The appliance is equipped with an electronic oven control that allows users to set temperatures, manage cooking times, and utilize a minute timer.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Oven Temperature Range: 170°F (77°C) to 500°F (260°C).
  • Oven Temperature Increments: Adjustable in 5°F (1°C) increments (or 1°C increments if set to Celsius).
  • Minute Timer Range: 1 minute to 11 hours 59 minutes.
  • Clock Time Range: 1:00 Hr./Min. to 12:59 Hr./Min.
  • Power Supply: Equipped with a 3-prong grounding plug.
  • Gas Type: Designed for natural gas, with conversion capability to Liquefied Petroleum (L.P.) Gas.
  • Surface Burner Types: Includes small burners for low-flame heating, standard burners for most cooking needs, and a larger POWER/QUICK BOIL burner for rapid heating of large quantities.

Usage Features

  • Surface Burner Operation:
    • Burner caps and grates must be properly installed for safe and efficient operation.
    • Control knobs are pushed in and turned counterclockwise to the LITE position for ignition, then adjusted to the desired flame size.
    • Flame size should not extend beyond the edge of the cooking utensil to prevent energy waste and burns.
    • Manual lighting is possible during an electrical power outage using a lit match.
  • Oven Operation:
    • Bake Function: Uses heat rising from the oven bottom, circulating naturally. Preheat is recommended for items like cookies, cakes, biscuits, and breads.
    • Broil Function: Uses direct radiant heat for browning. Broiling should be done with the oven door closed. A broiler pan with an insert is recommended to drain fat and prevent smoking.
    • Rack Placement: Oven racks can be removed and replaced. Flat oven racks are suitable for most cooking needs. Specific recommendations for rack positions are provided for single and double rack baking.
    • Oven Light: Automatically turns ON when the oven door is opened and can be manually controlled via a switch on the upper left control panel.
    • Temperature Adjustment: The oven temperature can be adjusted hotter or cooler by 5°F (1°C) increments from the factory setting.
  • Control Panel:
    • Bake Key: Selects the baking function.
    • Broil Key: Selects the broil function.
    • Timer On-Off Key: Sets or cancels the minute timer (does not start or stop cooking).
    • Set Clock Key: Used with arrow keys to set the time of day.
    • OFF Key: Stops or clears any active feature except the minute timer.
    • Up and Down Arrow Keys: Adjust oven temperature, clock, or minute timer settings.
  • Cookware Recommendations:
    • Material: Shiny metal bakeware is best for even heating. Dark metal and glass bakeware cook hotter, requiring a 25°F (13-14°C) temperature reduction. Insulated bakeware cooks cooler, requiring a 25°F (13-14°C) temperature increase.
    • Size and Shape: Cookware should have flat bottoms and match the surface unit heating element size. Handles should be positioned inward.
  • Home Canning: Specific guidelines are provided for safe home canning, including using flat-bottomed canners and appropriate heat settings.
  • Griddle (some models): A versatile accessory for cooking on a large flat surface. Preheat on medium to medium-low settings.

Maintenance Features

  • General Cleaning:
    • All controls must be turned OFF and the appliance cool before cleaning.
    • Use soft cloths with mild dish detergent and water or a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water for most surfaces (aluminum, vinyl, painted/plastic parts, control panel, control knobs, stainless steel).
    • Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or paper towels on finishes.
    • Do not spray liquids directly on the oven control and display area.
    • Clean ventilating hoods frequently to prevent grease accumulation.
  • Cooktop Cleaning:
    • Burner Heads: Remove burner caps, clean with hot soapy water, and dry thoroughly. For burned-on spills, apply hot soapy water to soften. Use a toothbrush to clean slots and holes, and a needle or fine wire for the ignition port. Ensure caps are properly seated after cleaning.
    • Burner Grates: Use a non-abrasive plastic scrubbing pad and mild abrasive cleanser. Clean spills as soon as surfaces are cool and dry thoroughly.
    • Aluminum Foil: Do not use aluminum foil on the cooktop as it can cause damage.
  • Oven Cleaning:
    • Manual Clean Oven Interior: Porcelain-coated interior can be cleaned with oven cleaners. Follow manufacturer's instructions, remove all cleaner residue, and ensure adequate ventilation.
    • Oven Door: Clean with mild dish detergent and water or a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. Glass cleaner can be used on outside glass. Do not immerse the door in water or allow cleaners to enter door vents. Do not clean the oven door gasket.
    • Oven Racks: Can be removed for cleaning.
  • Oven Light Replacement:
    • Unplug the appliance or turn off power at the main source.
    • Replace the bulb with a new appliance bulb.
    • Reset the time of day after restoring power.
  • Storage Drawer: Can be removed for cleaning underneath the range.
  • Oven Door Removal/Replacement: Instructions are provided for safe removal and replacement of the oven door for cleaning or service. The door is heavy and should be handled carefully.
