Overview

This document is a Use & Care Guide for a Frigidaire Gas Range, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Frigidaire Gas Range is a kitchen appliance designed for cooking, featuring both surface burners and an oven. It allows for various cooking methods including baking, broiling, and surface cooking. The appliance is equipped with electronic controls for setting oven temperature, managing cooking times, and operating surface burners.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Oven Temperature Range: The oven can be programmed for temperatures from 170°F (77°C) to 550°F (288°C).
  • Broil Temperature Range: LO 400°F (205°C) to HI 550°F (288°C).
  • Timer Range: 1 minute to 11 hours 59 minutes.
  • Clock Settings: 12 Hr. Mode (1:00 Hr./Min. to 12:59 Hr./Min.) and 24 Hr. Mode (0:00 Min to 23:59 Hr./Min.).
  • Gas Type: The appliance is convertible to Liquefied Petroleum (L.P.) Gas.
  • Electrical Requirements: Equipped with a 3-prong grounding plug for protection against shock hazard.
  • Burner BTU Ratings: The cooktop features gas surface burners with different BTU ratings, allowing for varied heating capabilities.
  • Oven Racks: Includes both flat oven racks and offset oven racks (on some models) for flexible cooking space.

Usage Features

  • Surface Burner Operation:
    • Ignition: To ignite a surface burner, push the control knob in, turn it counterclockwise to the LITE position, release, and then adjust to the desired flame size. All electronic surface ignitors spark simultaneously, but only the selected burner ignites.
    • Flame Size: Adjust flame size to match the utensil's edge; flames should not extend beyond the pan. A clear, blue, steady, and sharp flame indicates proper adjustment. Yellow-orange flames require adjustment or cleaning.
    • Cookware: Recommendations are provided for proper cookware selection based on material (shiny metal, dark metal, glass, insulated) and size. Flat-bottomed cookware is recommended for optimal heat contact.
    • Griddle (some models): A griddle accessory can be used for cooking on large flat surfaces, preheated on medium to medium-low settings for even heat distribution.
    • Home Canning: Specific guidelines are provided for home canning, including using flat-bottomed canners, matching canner diameter to burner size, and starting with hot tap water.
  • Oven Operation:
    • Baking: The oven is factory-calibrated for accurate baking. It has a 12-hour energy-saving feature that can be overridden for continuous baking.
    • Broiling: Broiling uses direct heat. Food should be placed on a broil pan with an insert to drain grease and prevent smoking. Rack positioning varies based on desired doneness. The broiler drawer should be pulled out to the stop position when turning or removing food.
    • Oven Racks: Racks should be arranged when the oven is cool. They can be removed by pulling them forward to the stop position and lifting slightly, and replaced by sliding them onto the rack guides.
    • Oven Vent: Located at the rear of the cooktop, the vent releases warm air and should not be blocked.
    • Oven Light: The interior oven light turns on automatically when the door is opened and can be manually controlled via a switch on the upper left control panel.
  • Control Panel:
    • Bake Key: Selects the baking function.
    • Broil Key: Selects the broil function, with an indicator light when active.
    • Timer On-Off: Sets or cancels the minute timer, which does not start or stop cooking.
    • Set Clock: Used with up/down arrows to set the time of day.
    • OFF Key: Stops or clears any active feature (except time of day and minute timer).
    • Up and Down Arrow Keys: Adjusts oven temperature, clock, or minute timer settings.
  • Temperature Adjustment: The oven temperature can be adjusted hotter or cooler in 5°F (1°C for Celsius) increments if cooking results are not satisfactory.
