Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. It emphasizes safety precautions, proper installation, and efficient use to ensure longevity and optimal performance of the appliance.

The air conditioner's primary function is to cool a room, but it also offers various modes and features to enhance user comfort and energy efficiency. The unit can be controlled via a touch pad on the appliance itself or through a remote control, with some models featuring a display on the remote for enhanced usability.

Operating Instructions and Features:

The control panel and remote control share similar functions, allowing users to easily navigate the various settings.

  • Power On/Off: The unit is turned on or off by pressing the ON/OFF button. When first turned on, the unit defaults to Cool mode with the Eco feature and Auto fan speed.
  • Eco Feature: This energy-saving feature, active in Cool mode, cycles the fan on and off with the compressor. When the room temperature drops below the set temperature, the fan runs for 3 minutes, then cycles on for 2 minutes at 10-minute intervals until the temperature rises again. This feature is invalid in fan-only mode and can be activated or deactivated by pressing the Eco button.
  • Mode Selection: The unit offers several operating modes:
    • Auto Mode: This mode automatically combines Cool mode with Auto fan speed. In this setting, the fan speed cannot be manually adjusted.
    • Cool Mode: The primary cooling function. The fan remains on continuously, while the compressor cycles on and off to maintain the set room temperature.
    • Fan Only Mode: Used when cooling is not desired, such as for room air circulation or exhausting stale air. Users can select any fan speed. In this mode, the display shows the actual room temperature, not a set temperature.
    • Dry Mode (Dehumidifier): In this mode, the air conditioner acts as a dehumidifier while also cooling the room. The fan speed is fixed at "Lo."
    • Sleep Feature: This mode automatically selects Auto fan speed. The set temperature gradually increases by 2°F after 30 minutes, and then by another 2°F after an additional 30 minutes. This new temperature is maintained for 7 hours before reverting to the original setting. The Sleep mode can be canceled at any time.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Users can set the desired temperature within a range of 62°F (17°C) to 86°F (30°C) using the UP (Λ) and DOWN (v) buttons. The control can also display temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
  • Fan Speed Adjustment: Four fan speed settings are available: Auto, Low (Lo), Medium (Med), and High (Hi). Fan speed cannot be manually selected in Auto or Dry modes, or when the Sleep feature is active.
    • Auto Fan Feature: The fan starts at Low speed and adjusts automatically based on room temperature. It speeds up if the room gets warm quickly and slows down as the room returns to the set temperature.
  • Timer Feature (Delay Stop/Start): This allows users to program a delayed stop or start for the unit. The delay timer can be set in 0.5-hour increments up to 10 hours, then in 1-hour increments up to 24 hours. The setting is confirmed automatically and counts down. This feature can be canceled by holding the timer button for 2 seconds or by pressing the ON/OFF button.
  • Remote Sensing Feature (on some models): Activated from the remote control, this feature allows the remote to sense the room temperature at its location and transmit it to the unit. The unit's display shows the set temperature, while the remote's display shows the actual temperature at the remote's location. The feature is deactivated if the unit doesn't receive a signal from the remote for 7 minutes or by pressing the Remote Sensing button again or the main ON/OFF button.
  • Light Feature: The display and LED indicators on the control panel can be turned off by pressing the "Light" button on the remote. They will illuminate for 5 seconds if any button is pressed, then turn off again.
  • Fresh Air Vent Control (on some models): This vent allows the air conditioner to recirculate inside air (Vent Closed), draw fresh air into the room (Fresh Air), or exchange air from the room (Vent Open).
  • Air Directional Louvers (Slider Type): These louvers allow users to direct airflow Up, Down, Left, or Right to distribute air throughout the room as needed.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the air conditioner's efficiency and longevity.

  • Air Filter Cleaning: The air filter should be checked at least once a month. Trapped particles can accumulate and cause frost on the cooling coils. The filter can be washed with liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water, or vacuumed clean.
    • Check Filter Feature: An LED indicator illuminates after 250 hours of operation to remind users to clean the air filter. After cleaning, pressing the "Filter Reset" button turns off the light.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: The cabinet and front can be dusted with an oil-free cloth or washed with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Harsh cleaners, wax, or polish should not be used. Care should be taken to wring excess water from the cloth when wiping around controls to prevent damage.
  • Winter Storage: If storing the unit for winter, it should be removed from the window according to installation instructions and covered with plastic or returned to its original carton.

Safety and Troubleshooting:

The manual includes important safety instructions, emphasizing proper grounding, avoiding extension cords, and not operating the unit with wet hands. It also provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like the unit not operating, insufficient cooling, ice formation, or unusual noises, along with solutions. Fault codes, such as "AS" for a failed sensor, are also explained, directing users to contact an authorized service center.

The power supply cord includes a current detection device to reduce fire risk. Users are instructed to test this device by pressing the TEST and RESET buttons on the plug head. If the cord is damaged, it cannot be repaired and must be replaced by the manufacturer.

Energy Saving Ideas:

The manual offers tips to maximize energy efficiency, such as not blocking airflow, ensuring the unit's capacity matches room size, installing the unit on the shady side of the home, closing fireplace dampers and registers, keeping blinds and drapes closed during sunny periods, cleaning the air filter regularly, ensuring proper home insulation, using external house shading, and operating heat-producing appliances during cooler parts of the day.
