Overview

This document is a Use & Care manual for a Frigidaire Electric Range, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire Electric Range is a cooking appliance designed for both surface cooking and oven baking. It features radiant surface elements on a ceramic glass cooktop, offering various cooking zones including single radiant elements and a dual surface radiant element for different cookware sizes. The oven offers multiple cooking modes: Bake, PowerPlus™ Preheat, Convection Bake, Convection Roast, Broil, and Keep Warm. It also includes a Self Clean cycle for oven maintenance and a Sabbath feature for specific religious observances. The range is equipped with a control panel that includes knobs for oven mode and temperature selection, as well as digital display features for clock, timers, and user preferences.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Oven Temperature Range: 170°F (77°C) to 550°F (288°C) for most cooking modes.
  • Keep Warm Temperature: 170°F (77°C).
  • Broil Temperature: 550°F (288°C).
  • Meat Probe Temperature Range: 140°F (60°C) to 210°F (99°C).
  • Self Clean Cycle Durations: 2 hours (light soils), 3 hours (average soils), 4 hours (heavy soils).
  • Clock Display: 12-hour format (Frigidaire Professional model).
  • Timer Setting: Minimum 1 minute, maximum 11 hours 59 minutes (11:59 HR:MIN).
  • Oven Temperature Offset: Adjustable by ± 35°F (± 5° with each key press).
  • Dual Surface Radiant Element: Accommodates 9-inch or 12-inch cookware.
  • Bridge Element: Operates at the same temperature as the left rear element when activated.

Usage Features:

  • Surface Cooking:
    • Radiant Surface Elements: Heat gradually and evenly, glowing red when hot. They cycle on and off to maintain selected settings.
    • Cookware: Flat-bottomed cookware matching element size is recommended for efficiency. Materials like aluminum, copper, and stainless steel are suitable. Cast iron and glass are generally not recommended for ceramic cooktops due to potential scratching or slow heat conduction.
    • Control Knobs: Push-in and turn design for desired settings (HI, MEDIUM HIGH, MEDIUM, MEDIUM LOW, LO).
    • Dual Surface Element: Allows selection of inner (smaller) or dual (larger) element for varied cookware.
    • Warmer Zone: Maintains serving temperature for cooked foods (pre-set temperature).
    • Bridge Element: Connects two left-side burners to create a larger cooking area for specialized cookware, operating at the same temperature as the left rear element.
    • Indicator Lights: "ELEMENT ON" glows when a burner is active. "HOT SURFACE" glows when a burner is hot enough to cause burns and remains on until the surface cools to a safe temperature.
  • Oven Cooking:
    • Oven Racks: Flat and offset oven racks are available. Racks should be arranged when the oven is cool.
    • PowerPlus™ Preheat: Uses the convection fan for faster preheating, recommended for single-rack items in the center of the oven.
    • Bake: Standard baking function.
    • Convection Bake: Circulates oven heat uniformly with a fan for faster, more even cooking and browning, ideal for multiple racks. Recipes may require temperature adjustments (Convection Convert feature).
    • Convection Roast: Gently browns the exterior and seals in juices for tender cuts of meat, lamb, pork, and poultry. Uses bake, convection, and broil elements with a fan.
    • Broil: Uses direct radiant heat for optimum browning. Requires the oven door to be open to the stop position. Broiler pan with insert is recommended to prevent grease splattering.
    • Keep Warm: Maintains a temperature of 170°F (77°C) for keeping oven-baked foods at serving temperature.
    • Meat Probe: Checks internal food temperature for precise cooking, especially for roasts and poultry. Automatically switches to Keep Warm when target temperature is reached.
    • Sabbath Feature: Disables audible tones and visual display changes, allowing continuous baking until canceled. Oven light is off in this mode.
  • Control Panel Features:
    • Clock: Sets the time of day.
    • Timer: Minute timers for tracking cooking functions (does not start/stop cooking).
    • Oven Light: Turns the internal oven light on/off.
    • User Preference Settings: Allows adjustment of audible control settings (AUd), energy saving (ES), user programmable offset for oven temperature (UPO), and automatic convection convert (Aut).

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning:
    • Cool-down: All controls should be turned off and the appliance cool before cleaning to prevent burns.
    • Cooktop: Clean with CookTop® Cleaning Creme, a non-abrasive cloth or sponge. For heavy soils, use a metal razor blade scraper at a 30-degree angle. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals (chlorine bleach, ammonia, oven cleaners), and dirty sponges.
    • Oven Interior (Porcelain): Clean with soapy water and a cloth. For difficult spots, use a soapy scouring pad or ammonia-soaked paper towel.
    • Oven Door: Clean with soap and water. Glass cleaner can be used on the outside glass. Do not immerse the door in water or spray into vents. Do not clean or damage the oven door gasket.
    • Oven Racks: Remove from oven cavity and clean with a mild, abrasive cleaner.
    • Control Panel & Knobs: Clean with a soft cloth, mild dish detergent and water, or a vinegar and water solution. Knobs can be removed for cleaning. Avoid excessive water, abrasive cleaners, or paper towels.
    • Stainless Steel: Clean with warm soapy water and a clean sponge or cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chlorides, chlorine, or ammonia.
  • Self Clean Cycle:
    • Preparation: Remove all oven racks, broiler pan, utensils, and aluminum foil. Wipe up excessive spills. Clean soil from the oven frame, door liner outside the gasket, and the small area at the front center of the oven bottom with soap and water.
    • Operation: Select desired clean time (2, 3, or 4 hours). The oven door will automatically lock.
    • Post-Clean: Allow oven to cool and door to unlock. Wipe away powdered ash with a damp cloth.
  • Oven Light Replacement: Disconnect power, remove glass shield, replace bulb, replace shield, and restore power.
  • Anti-Tip Bracket: Verify proper installation and re-engagement if the range is moved.
  • Grounding: Ensure proper electrical grounding by a qualified technician.

Safety Features:

  • Anti-Tip Device: Essential to prevent the range from tipping over.

  • Hot Surfaces: Avoid touching hot surfaces; use potholders.
  • Grease Fires: Smother with pan lid or baking soda; do not use water or flour.
  • Unattended Cooking: Do not leave surface elements unattended.
  • Ventilation: Ensure oven vent ducts are unobstructed. Turn on ventilating hood fan when flaming foods.
  • Cooktop Integrity: Do not operate a broken cooktop.
  • Aluminum Foil: Do not use to line oven bottom or cover racks; avoid contact with hot cooktop elements.
  • Power Failure: Turn off appliance controls during a power failure.
  • Self Clean Fumes: Ensure adequate ventilation, especially for birds.
  • Service & Maintenance: Only qualified technicians should perform repairs not specifically recommended in the manual.
