Starting-current phase: the base material is heated up rapidly, despite the high thermal 
dissipation that occurs at the start of welding
SL
Slope: the starting current is continuously lowered as far as the welding current and the 
welding current as far as the final current

Welding-current phase: uniform thermal input into the base material, whose temperature 
is raised by the advancing heat
I-E
Crater-fill phase: to prevent any local overheating of the base material due to heat build-
up towards the end of welding. This eliminates any risk of weld seam drop-through.
