- Troubleshooting Your LifeBook
Memory Problems
Your Power On screen does
not show the correct amount
of installed memory.
Memory upgrade mod-
ule improperly installed.
Remove and re-install your memory upgrade module. See “Mem-
ory Upgrade Module” on page 81.
You have a memory
failure.
Check for Power On Self Test (POST) messages. See “Power On
Self Test Messages” on page 105.
Modem Problems
Messages about modem
operation.
Messages about modem
operation are generated
by whichever modem
application is in use.
See your application software documentation for additional infor-
mation.
Serial and USB Problems
You have installed a serial,
or USB device. Your Life-
Book notebook does not
recognize the device, or the
device does not seem to
work properly.
The device is not prop-
erly installed.
Remove and re-install the device. See “Device Ports” on page 85.
Your device may not
have the correct soft-
ware driver active.
See your software documentation and activate the correct driver.
In Windows Vista, you
must either have any
USB device connected
before booting or wait a
few minutes after boot-
ing before connecting
it.You must wait a few
minutes
(Microsoft Windows Vista users only): When attaching a USB
device, do one of the following: Be sure to attach the device
BEFORE turning on your system, OR, wait for approximately three
minutes after the system boots up before attaching the device.
If you prefer not to wait the prescribed time to connect your USB
device, you must disable the Selective Suspend feature. To do so,
go to Start > Control Panel. In the left panel, select Classic view.
Click on Power Options > Change plan settings > Change
advanced power settings. Select USB settings, then select Dis-
abled from the pull-down menu for USB selective suspend setting.
Click [OK] to complete the process.
Parallel port is set to
output only.
Check parallel port setting in the BIOS and set to bi-directional or
ECP.
