Problem Possible Reason The Solution
You are using an insuffi-
cient type of water.
Only use clear tap water or low-mineral table water. Do
not use any mineral water or highly filtered or distilled
water.
A severe problem occur-
red.
Turn the machine off. Wait for 5 minutes, then turn the
machine back on.
If problem persists, call an authorized Service Centre.
Espresso only drips from
the portafilter spouts
(restricted flow).
The water tank is empty. Fill the water tank.
The coffee is ground too
finely.
Use a coffee powder that is ground a little coarser.
You applied too much
pressure, when tamping
the coffee power down
in the filter basket.
Reduce the pressure when tamping.
The filter basket is
clogged.
Clean the filter basket. See: ‘Cleaning the Filter Basket
and Portafilter’.
There is too much coffee
powder in the filter bas-
ket or you are using the
wrong filter basket.
When using the 1 cup filter basket, only fill in 1-2 level
filled measuring spoons. With the 2 cup filter basket,
you may use 2-3 level filled measuring spoons. For the
pad filter basket, only use 1 separate espresso pad.
The filter baskets are labelled via an icon on the back.
If in doubt, ensure that you are using the required filter
basket.
The water system within
the appliance is clogged.
Descale and purge the appliance, using the Gastroback
Premium descaler (see: ‘Descaling the Appliance’).
The espresso flows out
too quickly.
Coffee is ground too
coarsely.
Adjust the grind size to a finer grind.
You applied to little pres-
sure when tamping the
coffee powder down in
the filter basket.
Apply more pressure for tamping.
