Overview

This document outlines the features, specifications, usage, and maintenance of a GE Appliances Room Air Conditioner, models AHTT06 and AHTT08.

Function Description:

The GE Appliances Room Air Conditioner is designed to provide cooling, dehumidification, and air circulation for indoor spaces. It operates as a self-contained unit, typically installed in a window, to regulate room temperature and humidity. The device is equipped with a connected appliance information label, indicating it is GE Appliances SmartHQ Enabled, allowing for remote monitoring and control via a smartphone app.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: AHTT06, AHTT08
  • Refrigerant: The unit contains flammable refrigerant, necessitating specific safety precautions for handling, installation, operation, and disposal.
  • Electrical Requirements: The air conditioner requires a 115/120-volt AC, 60-Hz grounded outlet protected by a 15-amp time-delay fuse or circuit breaker. It is equipped with a 3-prong (grounding) plug to minimize the possibility of electric shock. The power cord includes a current interrupter device with a TEST and RESET button for safety.
  • Temperature Range (Cooling Operation):
    • Outdoor Temp: 70-109°F/21-43°C (70-125°F/21-52°C for tropical models)
    • Indoor Temp: 70-90°F/21-32°C
  • Window Dimensions:
    • Width: 20"-40"
    • Min. Height: 13"
    • Min. Height from Floor: 10"
  • Window Depth (Chase-Way Position):
    • Less than 7.75": Closed
    • 7.75" - 9.75": Position 1
    • 9.75" - 11.75": Position 2
    • 11.75" - 13.75": Position 3
  • Batteries for Remote Control: 2 "AAA" (1.5 volt) batteries (non-rechargeable).

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel and Remote Control: The unit can be operated via touch pads on the air conditioner's control panel or a supplied remote control. Lights beside the touch pads indicate selected settings.
  • Power Pad: Turns the air conditioner on and off. When on, the display shows the set temperature and user settings.
  • Display: Shows room temperature, remaining Delay timer time, or set temperature in Cool, Dry, or Eco modes.
  • Temp and Delay +/- Pads: Used to set temperature in Cool, Dry, and Eco modes, or to adjust delay time.
  • Mode Pad: Selects operating modes: Fan Only, Cool, Dry, or Eco.
  • Fan Speed Pad: Adjusts fan speed to Auto, Quiet, Med, or High in Cool, Eco, or Dry modes. In Fan Only mode, options are High, Med, or Quiet.
  • Delay Feature (Remote Control Only): Allows the unit to operate in ECO mode at a set temperature and fan speed after a specified delay (1-24 hours). The display shows remaining hours.
  • Sleep Pad: Activates SLEEP mode, which gradually changes settings over an 8-hour period for increased energy efficiency. Available in COOL, DRY, and ECO modes. Fan speed adjusts automatically (decreases by one setting if High or Med, sets to Quiet if Quiet or Auto). Set point raises by 2°F after 1 hour, and another 2°F after a second hour, remaining for the next 6 hours.
  • Filter Reset Pad: An indicator light comes on after 250 hours of operation to remind the user to clean the filters. Pressing the pad after cleaning resets the timer.
  • WiFi Connect Pad: Enables connection to home WiFi for SmartHQ app control.
  • Quiet Mode: Sets fan speed to QUIET. Usable with COOL, FAN, ECO, and DRY modes, controllable via unit or remote.
  • Air Direction: Levers allow adjustment of air direction (up and down).
  • Sound ON/OFF: Toggles the beep function for button presses. Pressing and holding the Filter button for 3-5 seconds switches the sound function. Default setting is Sound ON.
  • Normal Operating Sounds: Users may hear a pinging noise from water being thrown against the condenser on rainy or humid days (helps remove moisture and improve efficiency). A clicking sound may occur when the thermostat cycles the compressor. Water may accumulate in the base pan and overflow/drip outside. The fan may run even when the compressor is off.
  • SmartHQ Enabled: The air conditioner supports remote monitoring and control via the GE Appliances SmartHQ app, available on iTunes and Google Play. Users can connect the AC to their home WiFi network.

Maintenance Features:

  • Grille and Case Cleaning: Turn off and unplug the unit before cleaning. Use water and a mild detergent; avoid bleach or abrasives.
  • Filter Cleaning: Filters should be checked and cleaned at least every 250 hours or more often. Clean with warm, soapy water, rinse, and air dry. Do not clean in a dishwasher.
    • Front Filter: Access by opening the inlet grille, pulling tabs, and then pulling down on black tabs on the filter. Lift upwards to remove.
    • Side Filter: Locate the tab on the left side of the unit and pull straight out.
    • Plug Filter: Located on the right side of the unit. Remove the drain cap and pull the plug straight out to drain water. Ensure proper collection means are in place.
  • Outdoor Coils: Should be checked regularly for dirt or soot and professionally cleaned if clogged.
  • Draining the Unit:
    • Indoor Side: Remove the Drain Cap and pull the Filter Plug to drain. Reinsert securely after draining.
    • Outdoor Side: Only attempt if necessary and safely accessible from outside.
  • Remote Control Battery Replacement: Remove the battery cover, insert two "AAA" (1.5 volt) batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-), and reattach the cover. Remove batteries if the remote will not be used for a long time. Do not mix old and new batteries or different battery types.
