Glass Water Stills

5. Installation
After assembling all power and water connections, the cut-off valves of the mains supply
(Pos 4.2 and 4.3) must be opened and the main switch must be switched on to start
operation.
All cut-off valves of the mains supply should be closed when the still is not in operation.
6. Functional description
6.1 Glass water stills –standard version
After switching the unit on via the main switch, not only the green pilot lamp in the main
switch will glow, but also the pilot lamp for "low water". The built-in solenoid valve is opened
and releases the water supply to the boiler via the cooling coil of the condenser. The boiler is
filled with water until the heating element is below the surface. The water height in the boiler
is controlled by a float switch that switches the heating element on. At the same time, the
pilot lamp "low water" will switch off.
After a short time, the water in the boiler will start to boil, steam will rise into the glass
condenser and condenses on the cooling coil. The first of the distilled water can then be
with-drawn from the distillate outlet tap of the Mono Water Stills (Models 2202, 2204 and
2208).
In Bi Water Stills (models 2302 and 2304) the distillate produced in the mono stage is used
to filled the boiler of the bi stage until here the heating element is below water level, too. In
the second distillation stage, too, there is a float switch that controls the water level and
causes the heating elements to be switched on. When the water in the second stage boils
and the steam condenses on the cooling coil, bi distillate can be withdrawn from the distillate
outlet tap of Bi Water Stills (models 2302 and 2304).
6.2 Glass water stills with the accessory "separate water supply" (article no 2902)
The accessory "separate water supply" serves to feed the boiler with softened or
desalinated water and the cooling coil with phosphatized or normal tap water. The quantity of
inflowing industrial water is controlled via a float switch and a solenoid valve; the amount of
inflowing water is limited to the amount of water that evaporates.
Owing to the fact that the industrial water is in this case not preheated in the condensers, the
efficiency of the still is reduced by approx 10-15%.
6.3 Accessory "level control switch" (article no 2908)
A float switch is mounted to a plastic tube and has to be placed into a storage vessel (to be
provided by the user). When the storage vessel is filled, the level control switch in
connection with the electronic control of the water still switches off power and water supplies.
6.4 Function "sterilising"
When pressing the key "sterilising", the raw water supply (cooling water) is cut off for a five
minute sterilising period. The steam produced by the heating element is used to sterilise the
pure water area (condenser) and is allowed to escape through a vent in the lid of the water
still.
Caution!
Heavy vaporization!
Danger of scaldings!
After the sterilising period the water still restarts automatically.
