6.5 Function "cleaning"
Depending on the contamination level of the inflowing water and the increasing
contamination of the water in the boiler, a fully automatic rinsing process should be started
by pressing key "cleaning". This function is also triggered when boiling contaminated water
frothes in the boiler and comes into contact with the electrode in the boiler of the mono
stage.
During the rinsing process, the boiler is filled with water to its upper rim and then drained
completely. The contaminated water flows off through the hose connection marked
"contaminated water drain" (please also see item 4.5 of these operating instructions). The
boiler is automatically refilled with water until the heating element is below water level. The
distillation process then restarts.
The purpose of the function "cleaning" is to exchange contaminated water in the
mono stage boiler against clean water.
Caution! If the separate water supply is installed, the function "cleaning" will only
work partially as the low conductivity of the industrial water (e g desalinated
water) will prevent the water exchange being switched off. In these cases,
the water still must be switched off (main switch) after the mono stage boiler
is filled with water. The still must not be switched on again before the boiler
has been completely drained through the contaminated water drain.
7. Servicing and Maintenance
Caution!
Before servicing and maintenance always let
the glass water still cool down!
Danger of scaldings!
Descaling
During the rinsing process contaminated water is only exchanged against
clean water. Scalings in the boiler are not removed.
Descaling the boiler.
First press key "cleaning" to start the rinsing process. When, at the end of this process, the
boiler is drained, switch off the water still on the main switch.
Remove the front screen (lift by the grip holes, tilt to the front and pull down) and pour
approx 100 ml commercial descaling agent (e g "tin-be" by Messrs Dr Otto Hartmann, 71665
Vaihingen/Enz, Germany) into the front glass funnel which is on the right-hand side next to
the boiler.
After that switch on the water still and wait until the boiler is filled with water and the heating
element is switched on. When the solution has reached a temperature of approx 50°C to
70°C, switch off the water still. The solution must be allowed to react for approx 1 to 2 hours
with the scalings. After this time, switch on the water still again and press key "cleaning" to
start the rinsing process. The solution is rinsed and exchanged against clean water, and the
water still will restart normal operation.
Descaling and rinsing processes can be repeated at any time, if required.
After descaling, the first few litres of distillate should not be used as it might contain traces of
the evaporated descaling agent.
As for bi water stills (models 2302 and 2304) the contents of the back boiler (second stage)
should also be discarded because in this case, too, the quality of the distillate might be
reduced by traces of descaling agent.
