Overview

The Gigaset DA210 is a corded telephone designed for ease of use and reliable communication. Its design is straightforward, featuring a classic handset and a base unit with a numerical keypad and several function keys. The telephone is primarily intended for connection to analogue networks, making it suitable for standard home or office environments.

Function Description

The core function of the Gigaset DA210 is to facilitate voice calls. It includes a numerical keypad for dialling numbers, along with dedicated keys for specific functions. A call indicator light on the base unit flashes to signal incoming calls, ensuring that users are aware of new calls even if they are not directly next to the phone.

Speed dial functionality is a key feature, allowing users to save frequently dialled numbers to specific keys (0-9). This eliminates the need to manually enter long numbers each time, streamlining the calling process. The device supports up to 10 speed dial entries, each capable of storing numbers with up to 21 digits.

The mute key with an integrated LED allows users to temporarily deactivate the microphone during a call, providing privacy for side conversations without disconnecting the call. The LED illuminates when the microphone is muted, serving as a visual reminder. This LED also flashes when the telephone is in "set mode," indicating that the user is configuring settings such as speed dial numbers or ringer options.

A redial/pause key is included for convenience. This key allows users to quickly redial the last number called, saving time and effort. It can also be used to insert pauses into dialled numbers, which is particularly useful for accessing certain extension systems or automated services that require specific timing.

The recall key is essential for users connected to PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) systems or public telephone systems that offer advanced services. This key enables functions such as making enquiries during an external call or forwarding calls. The specific procedures for using the recall key depend on the PABX system in use.

The handset volume key provides control over the listening volume during a call, allowing users to adjust it to their preference. This volume setting is reset to the primary volume after the handset is hung up.

A switch for changing between pulse and tone dialling modes is located on the base unit. This flexibility ensures compatibility with various telephone networks and systems. Tone dialling (DTMF) is generally more modern and supports features like remote control of answering machines, while pulse dialling is an older standard. The device also supports temporary tone dialling switching when in pulse mode, activated by the star key, which reverts to pulse dialling once the call is ended.

The ringer settings can be customized, offering a choice of melody and volume levels (up to 9 levels, or off). The factory default is level 6. This allows users to adjust the ringer to suit their environment and preferences.

Usage Features

Connecting the telephone is a straightforward process. The device connects to the main phone socket using the supplied telephone cable. If necessary, telephone adapters can be used. The coiled end of the handset cable plugs into the handset itself.

The design of the handset cradle allows for versatile placement. The cable can be guided upwards for desktop use or downwards for wall mounting. For wall mounting, two dowel holes need to be drilled, and screws fixed at a vertical distance of 85 mm. A handset bracket, which is lifted out with a screwdriver and clipped into the cradle, secures the handset when the device is mounted on the wall. It is crucial that the handset bracket is placed with its slanting edge facing forwards to ensure the handset is properly secured.

The telephone is designed for operation within a temperature range of +5°C to +40°C and should not be exposed to direct sunlight or other heat sources. It is also important to position the telephone on a non-slip surface and lay connecting leads where they will not cause accidents.

When setting up speed dial numbers, the process involves pressing the set key, then the desired speed dial key (0-9), entering the number, and pressing the set key again. The mute key LED flashes during this "set mode" to indicate that the phone is in configuration.

Dialling pauses can be inserted into numbers, which is particularly useful for PABX systems or other services that require specific timing. These pauses are saved with the number and can be dialled automatically or manually after the first 5 digits by pressing the redial/pause key.

The device supports different flash times (100 ms, 280/600 ms) for tone dialling, which can be adjusted via a sliding switch below the keypad. This is important for compatibility with various PABX systems.

Maintenance Features

The Gigaset DA210 is designed for simple maintenance. For cleaning, the unit should be wiped with a damp cloth or an antistatic cloth. It is explicitly advised against using solvents or microfibre cloths, and a dry cloth should be avoided as it can cause static.

In the event of contact with liquid, specific steps are recommended: allow the liquid to drain, pat all parts dry, and place the device keypad-down in a dry, warm place for at least 72 hours (avoiding microwaves or ovens). The device should not be switched on again until it is completely dry. While contact with chemical substances can sometimes alter the telephone's exterior, following these steps generally allows the device to function again.

The device is not splash-proof and should not be used in wet locations like bath or shower rooms. It should also be protected from moisture, dust, corrosive liquids, and vapours. Users are advised never to open the telephone themselves.

An insert strip is provided for writing down the assignments of the speed dial keys, helping users keep track of their saved numbers. This practical feature aids in organization and ease of use.

The Gigaset DA210 is built to be a reliable and user-friendly telephone, focusing on essential communication functions with practical features for everyday use in various environments.
