The Girard Systems GC274B AC Motor Control Module is designed to control a single standard 110V AC motor, up to 8 Amps, and can be operated remotely using any paired G-Link handset or wall switch. It also features an ignition retract and lockout function for RV awning applications.
Function Description:
The GC274B module facilitates the remote control of an RV awning's AC motor. It receives RF signals on a frequency of 433.92 MHz from compatible G-Link devices, eliminating the need for extensive wiring and drilling in the vehicle. The module allows for extending (FWD), stopping (STOP), and retracting (REV) the awning. A key safety feature is its ability to automatically retract the awning and remove power when the vehicle's ignition is turned on or the parking brake is released, preventing accidental deployment while the vehicle is in motion. This ensures the awning cannot be redeployed until the vehicle is stationary.
The module can be programmed with up to 20 compatible remote modules. If an additional module is programmed beyond this limit, it will replace the most recently programmed module, while the previous 19 remain unchanged.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Power: 110VAC / 60Hz
- AC Input Wiring: White = Neutral / Black = Live / Green = Earth
- Motor Output Wiring: White = Neutral / Red = Direction 1 / Black = Direction 2 / Green = Earth
- LED Lighting Output: 12V DC
- RF Transmission Frequency: 433.92 MHz
- Remote Signal Range: More than 500ft in open air; more than 100ft in the presence of obstructions.
- Operating Temperature: 0-130°F
- Motor Compatibility: Controls a single Standard 110V AC Motor up to 8 Amps.
- Power Supply Requirement: A circuit breaker protected 15A/115V AC power supply from the vehicle's power distribution panel is required.
Usage Features:
- Remote Operation: Compatible with G-Link handsets and wall switches for convenient remote control.
- Ignition Retract and Lockout: Automatically retracts the awning and disables redeployment when the vehicle's ignition is on or parking brake is released, enhancing safety during travel.
- Motor Direction Change: The motor direction can be reversed by simultaneously pressing the LEFT and RIGHT buttons on the GC274B for at least 6 seconds.
- Programming Remote Devices: The module can be programmed to a remote handset or wall switch by pressing and holding the MIDDLE and RIGHT buttons on the GC274B until the Green LED flashes, then pressing STOP, and finally pressing the UP button on the remote device.
- Canceling Remote Devices: Individual remotes can be canceled by following a similar programming sequence, but pressing the DOWN button on the remote device instead of UP. All remotes can be canceled by simultaneously pressing the STOP and LEFT buttons on the GC274B for at least 6 seconds.
- Anemometer Integration (98GC116I): The GC274B can be programmed to an anemometer to automatically retract the awning based on wind speed. This involves a specific sequence of button presses on both the GC274B and the anemometer, followed by setting the wind speed adjustment dial.
- Motion Sensor Integration (98GC779G): The module can also be programmed to a motion sensor, which requires opening the motion sensor module, aligning a magnet with a reed switch, and then following a specific programming sequence involving the GC274B and the motion sensor's program button. The motion sensor's sensitivity can be adjusted.
- Awning Operation Conditions: Girard Systems awnings are designed for operation in light wind and rain. However, they must be closed during periods of heavy rain or high wind and should never be left open and unattended.
- Pre-Travel Check: All awnings must be closed prior to moving the vehicle, with a visual check to ensure they are fully closed.
- Obstruction Avoidance: Before deploying the awning, users must ensure the area is free of obstructions like trees, walls, pillars, posts, or other vehicles.
- Power Source Flexibility: The vehicle's electrical system transfer switch will select power for the awning from shore power (if connected), generator power (if running), or inverter power (if batteries are charged).
Maintenance Features:
- Warranty Information: Damage caused by wind, rain, or collisions with obstructions is not covered by the warranty. Damage resulting from failure to comply with instructions is also not covered.
- Installation: Requires installation of a UL approved 110VAC junction box for electrical connections and routing the awning's motor cable to this location, adhering to NEC requirements. The GC274B should be mounted on a wall using provided screws and tape.
- Programming Procedure Notes: When performing programming steps, each step must be executed within 10 seconds of the previous one, or the module will revert to factory settings. It is highly recommended to read and understand the entire programming sequence before attempting it.
- Troubleshooting Assistance: For queries or assistance with programming G-Link devices, Girard Systems offers a toll-free support line.
