Some procedures allow scope for the modeller’s personal preferences, including control surface linkages
and the installation of the turbine components. Certain simple and more complex steps also require some
technical ability and imagination.
Model aircraft, especially jet-powered models which are as technically demanding as the HARPOON,
cannot be built and flown successfully unless the modeller has a wide range of model building and flying
experience to call upon, and these requirements simply cannot be met by a beginner working on his own.
Despite the fact that the HARPOON features very highly advanced pre-fabrication, it is by no means a
suitable choice as a beginner’s first model aircraft. It is designed for and should be restricted to the
proficient expert modeller with years of experience in building and flying model aircraft.
Even though the model’s undercarriage recesses and other openings are pre-cut and almost finished, it
will usually be necessary to make slight adjustments. This applies in particular to the pushrod slots in the
top surface of the wing: usually the openings just need to be enlarged slightly. In particular the machined
aileron pushrod slot in the top surface of the wing is only a guideline, intended to simplify installation of
the servos, horns and pushrods. The slot will usually need to be made both longer and wider.
