Overview

This document serves as an operator manual for Greenworks battery chargers. It provides essential safety instructions, operational guidelines, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures for various charger models.

Function Description:

The Greenworks chargers are designed to recharge Greenworks 24V series lithium-ion battery packs. They are diagnostic chargers, indicating the battery's current status through an LED light system. The chargers are intended for indoor use only and are compatible with specific Greenworks 24V battery models.

Important Safety Instructions:

To ensure safe operation and prevent fire or electrical shock, users must adhere to strict safety guidelines:

  • Ventilation: Do not cover the charger's ventilation slots or place the charger on soft surfaces like blankets or pillows. Ensure ventilation slots remain clear.
  • Voltage Compatibility: Confirm voltage availability in your country before using the charger. Use appropriate plug adaptors if necessary.
  • Liquid Avoidance: Do not allow liquid inside the charger.
  • Intended Use: Use the charger only for its intended purpose as described in the manual.
  • Cleaning: Unplug the charger and remove the battery pack before cleaning. Do not use damp cloths or detergents on the battery or charger.
  • Connection: Do not connect two chargers together. Ensure output polarity matches load polarity.
  • Environmental Conditions: For indoor use only. Do not place the battery pack in direct sunlight or warm environments. Maintain normal room temperature between 6 °C and 40 °C (42.8 °F and 104 °F) for optimal charging.
  • Foreign Objects: Prevent small metal items, steel wool, aluminum foil, or other foreign particles from entering the charger cavity.
  • Battery Type: Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. Use only Greenworks 24V series approved replacement batteries (e.g., LB24A020). Other battery types may burst, causing injury and damage.
  • Children and Supervised Use: This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and older, and individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, only with supervision and proper instruction regarding safe use and understanding of hazards. Children should not play with the appliance, and cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children without supervision.
  • Damaged Cord Set: If the cord set is damaged, it must be replaced by a special cord set available from the manufacturer or its service agent.
  • Water Source: The battery should never be near a water source.
  • Maintenance: Always remove the battery pack before cleaning, inspecting, or performing any maintenance on the tool.

Proposition 65 Warning:

This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Dust created from power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities may contain chemicals such as lead, crystalline silica, arsenic, and chromium. To reduce exposure, work in well-ventilated areas and use approved safety equipment like dust masks.

Symbols on the Machine:

The manual illustrates symbols found on the charger, including:

  • Indoor Use Only: Indicates the charger is for indoor use.
  • Read Instructions: Advises users to read the instructions before charging.
  • Fuse: Indicates the presence of a fuse.

Risk Levels:

The manual defines signal words to indicate risk levels:

  • DANGER: Indicates an imminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
  • WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
  • CAUTION (with alert symbol): Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.
  • CAUTION (without alert symbol): Indicates a situation that may result in property damage.

Usage Features:

  • Charge Procedure:
    1. Connect the charger plug to an AC power outlet.
    2. Insert the battery pack into the charger.
    3. The charger's LED light (3) indicates the battery status:
      • Green Blinking: Battery is charging.
      • Green Solid: Fully charged.
      • Red Solid: Battery is too warm (remove for approximately 30 minutes to cool).
      • Red Blinking: Defective battery (remove and replace).
  • Battery Memory: Greenworks battery packs do not have a memory effect, allowing them to be charged at any time.
  • Troubleshooting Charging Issues:
    • If the battery pack does not charge correctly, check the power outlet with other machines, ensure charger contacts are not short-circuited, and move the charger and battery pack to a location within the normal operating temperature range (6 °C to 40 °C).
    • If the charger LED light is red in a warm environment, remove the battery pack and let it cool for about 30 minutes.
  • Mounting the Charger:
    1. Select a wall location.
    2. Use two wood screws to attach the charger to wood studs.
    3. For models CAG801/2903102/29862, drill two parallel holes 5" (127 mm) on center. For models CAG817/CAG812, drill two parallel holes 4.4" (112 mm) on center.
    4. Use wall anchors and screws to attach the charger to drywall if needed.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Machine:
    • Keep the air vent free of blockage from saw dust and wood dust. Do not spray, wash, or submerge the charger in water.
    • Use a vacuum to clear unwanted material from the air vent.
    • Clean the housing and plastic components with a soft, dry cloth.
    • Do not use strong solvents or detergents on plastic housing or components.
  • Stowing the Machine:
    • Remove the battery pack and unplug the charger before storing it for extended periods.
