What to do if my Grundfos Water Pump does not start or stops immediately after starting?
    • M
      Mr. Matthew GainesAug 9, 2025
If your Grundfos water pump fails to start or stops shortly after, several factors could be responsible. It could be due to a power failure (contact the electric power company), incorrect voltage, or a significant voltage drop. Inspect the motor and connections for motor phase malfunction. Check the electric circuit for connection faults and correct the wiring if there's a faulty control circuit connection. Replace a blown fuse with the correct type, or replace a faulty magnetic switch with the correct type. If a short circuit is present, locate and repair it. Other potential issues include foreign matter clogging the pump (remove it), a burnt-out motor (rewind it) or damaged motor bearings (replace them).

Why does my Grundfos KJI KSE Water Pump start but stop after a short period?

Your Grundfos Water Pump might be stopping shortly after starting because the motor protection has been activated due to prolonged dry operation. To resolve this, adjust (raise) the pump stop water level, ensuring the motor remains partially covered during operation. Alternatively, high liquid temperature may have activated the motor protector; in this case, lower the liquid temperature.

What to do if my Grundfos Water Pump does not pump adequate volume?

If your Grundfos Water Pump isn't pumping enough water, several things could be wrong. First, check for reverse rotation and correct it. A significant voltage drop could be the cause, so contact your electric power company. Ensure you're not operating a 60Hz pump on 50Hz by checking the name plate. Also, check if the discharge head is too high or if there's large piping loss, and recalculate and adjust as necessary. Low operating water levels can cause air suction, so raise the water level or lower the pump. Inspect and repair any leaks from the discharge piping. Remove any foreign matter from clogged discharge piping or the suction inlet. If foreign matter is clogging the pump, disassemble and remove it. Lastly, a worn-out impeller can cause this issue, so replace it.
