This document is a user manual for the Harbor Breeze Landon Ceiling Fan, Model #LAN52SS5L, Item #5127874. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance, along with safety information and warranty details.
Function Description:
The Harbor Breeze Landon Ceiling Fan is designed to provide air circulation and illumination in both indoor and wet outdoor locations. It features a multi-speed fan and an integrated light kit. The fan speed can be controlled via a pull chain, offering four positions: HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, and OFF. The light can be turned ON or OFF using a separate pull chain. The fan also includes a reverse switch to optimize performance for different seasons, allowing for downward airflow in warmer weather to create a wind chill effect, and upward airflow in cooler weather to help move stagnant, hot air off the ceiling area. The fan is remote control adaptable, though the remote control is not included with the fan itself.

- Light Control: Separate pull chain for turning the light ON or OFF.
- Seasonal Reverse Switch: Allows optimization for warmer (LEFT position for downward airflow) or cooler (RIGHT position for upward airflow) weather. The reverse switch must be set completely LEFT or completely RIGHT for the fan to function; it will not operate if set in the middle position.
- Mounting Options: Supports standard mount for ceilings 8 ft. high or higher, and angle mount for angled or vaulted ceilings. A longer downrod (not included) may be necessary for taller or angled ceilings to ensure proper blade clearance.
- Wiring Options: Diagrams are provided for three common wiring configurations:
- Fan and Light Controlled by Pull Chains
- Fan Controlled by Pull Chain, Light by Wall Switch
- Fan and Light Controlled by Two Wall Switches
- Remote Control Adaptability: The fan is designed to be compatible with a remote control (not included).
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Checks: At least twice a year, the lower canopy (B) should be lowered to check the downrod (A) assembly, and all screws on the fan should be tightened.
- Cleaning: The motor housing (D) should be cleaned with only a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the finish. The blades (H) should be cleaned with a lint-free cloth. A light coat of furniture polish may occasionally be applied to wood blades for added protection.
- Bulb Replacement: Use a standard-base 6-watt LED bulb or CFL/incandescent equivalent. It is important to allow the bulb to cool down before touching it for replacement.
- Safety Precaution for Maintenance: Always shut off the main power supply before beginning any maintenance. Do not use water or a damp cloth to clean the ceiling fan.
- Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the fan not moving, noisy operation, excessive wobbling, and lights failing.
The manual emphasizes several critical safety warnings and cautions, including:
- Always turn off circuit breakers or fuses and wall switches before installation or maintenance to prevent electrical shock.
- Ensure the outlet box is securely attached to the building structure and can support the fan's weight (at least 35 lbs.).
- Do not use power tools to assemble any part of the fan, especially the blades, to avoid serious bodily injury or damage.
- Connect to a GFCI outlet if using in a wet location.
- Mount the fan to an outlet box marked "ACCEPTABLE FOR FAN SUPPORT OF 35 LBS. (15.9 KG) OR LESS" and use provided mounting screws.
- Use a METAL octagonal outlet box for ceiling mounting; avoid plastic boxes.
- Wear gloves when handling fan parts with sharp edges.
- Use only the provided wire connectors, ensuring they are appropriate for the gauge and number of house wires.
- Do not use the fan with any solid-state speed control device or a full-range dimmer switch to control fan speed, as this can cause a loud humming noise and poses a risk of fire or electrical shock.
- Do not bend blade arms during installation, balancing, or cleaning.
- Do not insert objects between rotating fan blades.
- Use ONLY parts provided with the fan to avoid voiding the warranty and ensure safety.
- Ensure proper grounding of the outlet box and the presence of a ground wire.
- Carefully check all screws, bolts, and nuts on the fan motor assembly after installation.
- Align the hanging ball slot with the tab in the mounting bracket to prevent serious injury or death.
- Ensure no bare wire or wire strands are visible after making connections, and place GREEN/WHITE wire connections on the opposite side of the outlet box from BLACK/BLUE connections.
Warranty:
The fan comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty from the date of purchase, covering defects in workmanship and materials. The distributor will correct any defect or replace the fan. The warranty requires a sales receipt as proof of purchase and does not cover costs of removal/reinstallation, damage from accident, misuse, improper installation, or use of non-original parts. It also excludes changes in brass finish, rusting, pitting, tarnishing, corroding, peeling, and glass parts. Replacement of defective parts within the first year should be reported to customer service. For the remainder of the warranty, customer service should be contacted for return authorization and shipping instructions.
