Ash Removal
Disposal of Ashes
Ashesshouldbeplacedinasteelcontainerwithatighttting
lid.Theclosedcontainerofashesshouldbemovedoutdoors
immediatelyandplacedonanon-combustibleoororonthe
ground,wellawayfromallcombustiblematerials,pending
naldisposal.Ifashesare disposedofbyburialin soilor
otherwiselocallydispersed,theyshouldberetainedinthe
closed container until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.
Otherwasteshallnotbeplacedinthiscontainer.
Soot and Flyash: Formation and Need for Removal
The products of combustion will contain small particles
of yash. The yash will collect in the exhaust venting
systemandrestrict theowofthe uegases.Incomplete
combustion, such as occurs during startup, shutdown, or
incorrectoperationoftheroomheaterwillleadtosomesoot
formationwhichwillcollectintheexhaustventingsystem.The
exhaustventingsystemshouldbeinspectedatleasttwice
monthlytodetermineifcleaningisnecessary.Payparticular
attentiontoscreeningintheventcap.Thescreen,ifpresent,
willaccumulatewithashesratherquickly.

Itisrecommendedtoremovetheasheswhentheboilerisnot
inoperation.Thislessensthechancesofcomingincontact
withhotsurfaces.Ashescanberemovedwhileinoperation
but,extracaremustbetaken.
Open Ash Door
Liftthelatchandopenthedoorasshowning.21.
NOTE: Keep hopper lid, hopper swing plate, rebox door
and ash pan door closed during operation and maintain
all seals in good condition.
Remove Ash Pan
Alwayswearglovestoremoveashpan.Grabtheashpan
bythengerholdandpullitoutoftheboiler.Lifttheashpan
bythengerholdanduseitforcarryingtheashpan.Close
the ash door before disposing the ashes.

is required.
