ANW2 Automatic Forming Network
Centralized command and control is not required for
network formation, management and healing
Hotel
Golf
Tango
Zulu
November
As radios enter ANW2 mode and start communicating with each other, a Global
Server Node (GSN) is selected by the radio network. The GSN maintains the
information required for network control. If the current GSN goes down a new
GSN is selected and there is no impact to the network. The GSN cannot be pre-
configured.
As the network is formed, each radio keeps track of how many other radios are in
direct line of site to itself (called 1-HOPs) and how many radios are in the entire
network. The radios are tracked by their IP address. If a radio leaves the
network that was relaying data, the network status is updated within a few
seconds and the data is automatically relayed through an alternate route. Data
can be relayed up to 8 Hops and voice can be relayed up to 4 Hops.
Self healing example: If Tango is sending data to Hotel relayed through
November and November drops out of the network, Zulu will automatically begin
relaying the data.
