Under TEST OPTIONS there are 8 sub menus: BERT, SELF TEST, OPTIONAL
TESTS, WIDEBAND TESTS, LCD TEST, SW VALIDATION, KEYPAD TEST, and
MEMORY TEST.
BERT allows the operator to run a Bit-Error-Rate test on the narrow band
(VULOS) part of the radio. BERT tests the quality of the transmission between
radios. One radio TRANSMITS and multiple radios can RECEIVE. Select the
SYNC PATTERN, there are 8 to choose from and all radios must match patterns.
(63, 511, 2047, 4095, MARK, SPACE, 1:1, & 0011) The radios must have its
Traffic Mode set to DATA. When the Receiving radio locks onto the Sync Pattern
it will display the number of sync blocks received and the number of errors.
Pressing the Next button will display the Average BER, total number of bit errors
divided by the total number of bits received.
SELF TEST runs the Built-In Test for all hardware modules. Select YES to run
the self test. Next, select whether to run EMIT RF FOR TEST. YES will cause
the radio to transmit during the self test. If the test is run in CT without a crypto
key loaded, a fault will occur. If no faults are found, ****TEST **** PASSED will
be displayed.
