Operation

Explains how the sand filter system traps impurities from pool water using sand.

Starting Up the Filter System

Initial Checks and Valve Setting

Ensure connections are tight, filter has correct sand, and set valve to 'BACKWASH'.

Backwash Procedure

Run pump for 2 minutes during backwash to remove impurities from the sand.

Rinse Procedure

Run pump for about a minute during rinse until water in sight glass is clear.

Filter Operation and Pressure Monitoring

Set valve to 'FILTER', restart, adjust valves, and note pressure for future backwashing.

Valve and Filter Functions

Filter Function

Set valve to 'Filter' for normal filtration, typically for 6 to 8 hours daily.

Backwash Function

Used for cleaning the filter when pressure rises 10 PSI above start-up pressure.

Rinse Function

Evacuates dirty backwash water to a drain for about one minute after backwashing.

Waste Function

Discharges water directly to sewer, used for lowering pool level or removing very dirty water.

Recirculate Function

Bypasses the filter for rapid chemical dispersion or chlorination.

Closed Function

Cuts off circulation between filter and pump; must not be used with pump running.

Winterizing the Filter

Tank Draining

Completely drain the tank by unscrewing the drain cap at the base. Leave cap off during winter.

Valve Handle Position

Rotate and leave the valve handle in any position during winterization.

Pump Draining

Drain the pump according to the specific pump manufacturer's instructions for winterizing.

Warranty Conditions

One-year warranty for defects. Excludes frost, chemical damage, wear parts, and labor costs.
