Installation position of the sensor:
ARIADNE is flexible knock detection which is developed for every gas and dual fuel engine.
The quality of the detection depends mainly on the position of the knock sensors and the
sound characteristic of the engine.
Note: Not every engine is optimized for knock detection; Heinzmann is not responsible for
the mounting position and can not guarantee the function on every engine (because of sound
characteristic of the engine)
The best position for the knock sensor is given from the engine producer. Please contact the
service of the engine producer for the best knock sensor position.
If there is no optimized position from manufacture the optimum position must be found in the
following ways:
Find some different positions for the knock sensor on the engine. Please take care, that the
distance between combustion chamber and knock sensor is minimal and connection is directly
on cylinder head or engine body. Measure in every position the intensity of the knock signal*
when the engine is knocking** and with normal combustion (at 100% load). Compare the
results and use the position with the best measurements.
*Ways to be sure that the engine is knocking: Cylinder pressure signal or noise
**Ways to get the engine in knocking: ignition timing in early direction, Air/ Gas mixture
richer, mixture inlet temperature higher.
