Overview

This document describes the Clear Solutions Direct Connect Product Installation Guide for the CS-1000 model, a water filtration system designed to provide clear water by reducing contaminants.

Function Description

The Clear Solutions Direct Connect system is a water filtration unit intended for cold water use only, designed to be installed under a sink. Its primary function is to filter tap water, improving its taste, odor, and clarity by reducing various contaminants. The system utilizes a direct connect filter cartridge that is easily replaceable. It is designed to be connected to the cold water supply line, providing filtered water through the existing kitchen faucet. The system head, which houses the filter cartridge, is mounted to a cabinet or wall, ensuring a secure and stable installation. The filtration process occurs as water passes through the disposable filter cartridge, which has a limited service life and requires periodic replacement to maintain optimal performance. The system is not intended for use with microbiologically unsafe water or water of unknown quality without prior disinfection.

Usage Features

The system is designed for straightforward installation and use. It connects directly to the cold water supply line under the sink, eliminating the need for a separate faucet. The installation process involves connecting a water supply adapter to the cold water shut-off valve, then connecting the system head to the adapter and the kitchen faucet using 3/8" plastic tubing. The system head is mounted to a solid surface, such as a cabinet wall or stud, using a mounting bracket and screws. Proper positioning allows for 2 inches of clearance below the system for easy filter changes. Once installed, the system provides filtered water through the existing kitchen faucet. Before initial use, and after prolonged periods of non-use (e.g., vacation), it is recommended to flush the system thoroughly by letting water run for 5-6 minutes to clear any air and carbon fines. Changes in the water's taste, odor, color, or flow rate indicate that the filter cartridge needs replacement. The system is strictly for cold water use and should not be connected to a hot water line.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of the Clear Solutions Direct Connect system. The primary maintenance task is the replacement of the filter cartridge. The disposable filter cartridge has a limited service life and should be replaced every six months for best results, or sooner if changes in water quality (taste, odor, color, or flow) are noticed. The replacement process is designed to be simple: first, turn off the cold water shut-off valve to the filter system and relieve pressure by dispensing water from the kitchen faucet. Then, the old cartridge is removed by turning it from the locked to the unlocked position and gently pulling it down. A pan or bucket should be placed underneath to catch any water drips. The new cartridge is inserted by aligning its inlet and outlet ports and key with the head, pushing upward, and turning it to the locked position. After replacement, the system should be flushed for 5 minutes to remove air and carbon fines. It is important to mark the installation date on the cartridge label for tracking.

The filter housing itself is covered by a 90-day limited manufacturer's warranty for defects in material and workmanship from the original date of delivery. This warranty does not cover disposable filter cartridges, damage in transit, or issues arising from tampering, alteration, improper use, or repairs by unauthorized personnel. It also explicitly states that the product is not warranted against freezing or water pressure surges. To service the product under warranty, customers must contact Hellenbrand, Inc. Product Support for instructions and an authorized return identification number.

To prevent costly repairs or water damage, it is strongly recommended that the head of the filter be replaced every ten years, as the product has a limited service life. The filter housing must be protected from freezing temperatures, frost, snow, sleet, and ice, as exposure to these elements can cause cracks and product failures. If the system must be left unattended for an extended period, the water supply to the head should be turned off, and the cartridge removed.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues such as leaks. For leaks between the system head assembly and the filters, the cartridge should be removed, and the o-rings inspected for proper placement and cleanliness before re-installing. For leaks around the fittings, the 3/8" plastic tubing should be checked to ensure it is cut squarely and free from scratches or crimps; if damaged, a small section should be cut off and the tubing re-installed. For leaks on the water supply adapter connection, the 3/8" plastic tubing should be checked, and if the threads between the adapter and cold water line are leaking, they should be tightened or sealed with plumber's tape. If leaks persist or other issues arise, customers are advised to contact Product Support.
