Do you have a question about the Hitachi RPK1.5FSNK1 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document serves as an operation manual for Hitachi Inverter Driven Multi Split System Heat Pump Air Conditioners, specifically for Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems and their indoor units. It covers both Hi-Wall and In-the-Ceiling type models, providing essential information for their operation and maintenance, including cooling and heating functionalities.

Function Description:

The air conditioners are designed for standard air conditioning, offering cooling, dry, and fan operations. They are not intended for other purposes such as drying clothes or refrigerating food. The system utilizes an inverter-driven multi-split design, allowing for variable refrigerant flow to optimize performance and energy efficiency. A key feature is the ability to control multiple indoor units (up to 16) with a single remote control switch. The system incorporates automatic control functions such as a "Three Minute Guard" for compressor protection during start-up and shutdown, "Oil Return Operation" to prevent refrigerant accumulation in heat exchangers, and "Frost Prevention During Cooling Operation" to avoid frost formation at low discharge air temperatures.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Indoor Unit Types:
    • Hi-Wall Type: RPK1.5FSNK1, RPK2.0FSNK1, RPK2.5FSNK1, RPK0.8FSNK2, RPK1.0FSNK2, RPK1.3FSNK2, RPK1.5FSNK2, RPK2.0FSNK2, RPK2.5FSNK2.
    • In-the-Ceiling Type: RPIL1.0FSNK3/K4, RPIL1.5FSNK3/K4, RPIL2.0FSNK3/K4, RPIL2.0FSNK, RPIL2.5FSNK, RPIL3.0FSNK, RPIM4.0FSNK, RPIM5.0FSNK, RPI8.0FSNK1, RPI10FSNK1, RPIH12FSNK.
  • Nominal Capacity (HP): Available capacities range from 0.8 HP to 12.0 HP across various models.
  • Operating Temperature Range:
    • Cooling Operation: Indoor (Dry Bulb) Maximum 32°C, Minimum 21°C. Outdoor (Dry Bulb) Maximum 48°C, Minimum 15°C.
  • System Capacity: A maximum total capacity of 130% and a minimum total capacity of 50% can be achieved by combining indoor units.
  • Remote Control Switches:
    • Wired Remote Control Switch: PC-ARF (Optional).
    • Wireless Remote Control Switch: PC-LH3C (Optional), PC-AWR, PC-LH3B.
  • Temperature Setting Range: Minimum 17°C (wireless) or 19°C (wired), Maximum 30°C.
  • Filter Cleaning: Automatic filter cleaning is performed approximately once per day when accumulated operating hours exceed 12 hours. Forced cleaning occurs if the unit runs for more than 12 hours without going into standby. Manual cleaning is also possible in standby mode.
  • Dust Collection: Dust box cleaning is recommended approximately every two years, or annually depending on usage.

Usage Features:

  • Remote Control: The units can be operated via wired (PC-ARF) or wireless (PC-LH3C, PC-AWR, PC-LH3B) remote control switches. These switches allow users to adjust temperature, fan speed, operation mode (Cool, Dry, Fan, Auto), and louver direction.
  • Automatic Swing Louver: Available in Hi-Wall units, this feature allows adjustment of the airflow angle. The louver can be set to a fixed position or to auto-swing continuously. For cooling/dry operation, the discharge air angle can be changed at 5 positions (approx. 36° to 68°), and for fan operation, at 7 positions (approx. 36° to 84°).
  • Motion Sensor (Hi-Wall units only): This sensor detects human activity by changes in infrared light. It automatically adjusts air conditioning capacity (set temperature, airflow volume, and direction) to save energy when absence is detected. Users can select "Running" (continued operation with capacity saving), "Stand-by" (fan operation at "Slo" speed), or "Stop" (unit stops) when absence is detected. The check interval for absence detection can be set from 30 to 180 minutes.
  • Central Control: When connected to a central controller, certain remote control operations (temperature setting, fan speed, direction) may be prohibited.
  • Hot Start: During heating operation, "HOT-ST" indicates that the compressor is preheating.
  • Defrost Operation: "DFR" indicates defrosting, during which the indoor fan stops, and the louver is fixed horizontally.
  • Identifying Indoor Units Installed Side by Side: A function to prevent interference when two indoor units are installed close to each other, ensuring commands from a wireless remote control are received by the intended unit. This requires a specific setting on the remote control switch.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Automatic Clean: Hi-Wall units with a filter clean mechanism automatically clean the filter. The system indicates when filter cleaning is due (FILTER lamp lights up).
  • Manual Filter Cleaning: Filters can be manually cleaned by selecting the option in the wired remote control menu or by pressing "MY CLEAN" on the wireless remote control. This can only be done in STANDBY mode.
  • Dust Box Collection: The manual recommends clearing dust from the dust box approximately every two years. A "Dust collection" message appears on the LCD when it's time to collect dust.
  • Filter Reset: After cleaning the air filter, pressing the "RESET" button (in off mode) clears the filter indication and resets the cleaning timer.
  • Battery Replacement: For wireless remote control switches, batteries (AAA type) should be replaced approximately once a year. The manual provides instructions for replacing batteries and notes that the "Identifying of Indoor Units Installed Side by Side" setting will be canceled upon battery replacement and needs to be reset.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section for common issues like no operation, insufficient cooling/heating, and abnormal conditions (flashing RUN indicator, alarm codes). It also clarifies situations that are not abnormal, such as smells from the indoor unit, sounds from deforming plastic parts, dew on the air panel, and refrigerant flow sounds.
  • Safety Precautions: Emphasizes not pouring water on units, not touching internal safety devices, turning off the main power supply before accessing units, and contacting a service contractor for refrigerant leaks or frequent earth leakage breaker activation. It also advises against using flammable sprays near the system.
  • Important Notice: Highlights Hitachi's policy of continuous improvement, the reservation of rights to vary specifications, and the inability to anticipate every potential hazard. It also specifies that the manual should remain with the equipment as a permanent part.
