The Holman BX4 is a 4-outlet Bluetooth® tap timer designed for automatic and manual garden watering. It allows users to control their watering schedules via a smartphone app called iGardener®.
Function Description:
The BX4 tap timer offers both automatic and manual watering capabilities. Automatic watering is primarily managed through the iGardener® app, allowing for detailed scheduling. Manual watering can be initiated directly on the device by selecting a zone on the main dial and pressing the tap timer button, or through the app by setting a run time and tapping "START."
The device supports various watering schedules:
- 7 Days Watering: Users can set up to three start times and run times for each day of the week.
- Interval Days Watering: This allows for watering every X number of days (e.g., every 2 days) with multiple start and run times.
- Odd (calendar) Days Watering: Watering occurs on odd-numbered calendar days, with an option to exclude specific days (e.g., the 31st).
- Even (calendar) Days Watering: Watering occurs on even-numbered calendar days.
- Cycle Watering: This feature enables short burst intervals, suitable for misting systems or greenhouses. Users can set start and stop times, run times (minimum 5 seconds), and delay times (minimum 5 seconds) between cycles.

Usage Features:
- iGardener® App: The primary interface for setting up and managing watering schedules. The app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
- Device Renaming: Users can rename their BX4 in the iGardener® app to distinguish it from other devices, especially useful for multiple units.
- Zone Management: The app displays the currently selected watering zone in blue and provides options for scheduling.
- Manual Operation: Can be initiated via the app or directly on the device using the main dial and tap timer button.
- Sequential Watering: If multiple zones are scheduled to run at the same time, the BX4 will automatically run them one-by-one to prevent pressure loss. This feature syncs start times across zones for START 1 and can be set for STARTS 2-3 as well.
- Saving Schedules: After setting a schedule in the app, users must tap "DONE" and then "UPDATE" to send the new schedule to the BX4. A "DONE" symbol confirms successful syncing.
- Battery Status: The app displays the battery status, which updates every minute when within Bluetooth® range.
Maintenance Features:
- Cold Weather: The BX4 should be removed from the tap and stored away during winter to prevent damage from freezing conditions.
- Batteries: Remove batteries during periods of non-use to prevent leakage, which can cause corrosion and damage.
- Turning Off Schedules: All watering schedules can be disabled by turning the MAIN DIAL to "OFF."
- Connection Issues:
- Ensure alkaline batteries are correctly installed.
- Ensure the smartphone is within 20m Bluetooth® range.
- Ensure no other smartphone is currently paired with the BX4.
- If the BX4 shows as disconnected after battery replacement, wait a few minutes for iGardener® to update its status.
- Unpairing: The BX4 can be unpaired from iGardener® by selecting it in the device menu and tapping "DELETE." It can also be manually unpaired by removing the batteries. If a schedule is set when unpaired, it will continue to run until paired with a new smartphone and a new schedule is saved.
