Overview

This document describes a 29-inch tower fan, designed for household use, offering a range of features for personal comfort and ease of maintenance.

Function Description

The primary function of this device is to provide air circulation within a room. It operates as a fan, moving air to create a cooling effect or to circulate warm air during colder seasons. The fan is not intended for continuous operation but rather for intermittent use as needed. It features an oscillation function, allowing it to sweep air across a wider area, enhancing its effectiveness in larger spaces. The fan is powered by a standard 120V AC electrical outlet and incorporates a polarized plug for safety.

Usage Features

The fan is designed for straightforward operation with a focus on user convenience and safety.

  • Assembly: The fan requires minimal assembly, estimated to take 5-10 minutes without tools. The process involves assembling the two base halves around the power cord, securing them together, and then aligning and securing the base to the fan housing by rotating it clockwise until an audible click is heard. Once assembled, the fan should be placed on a dry, level surface.
  • Power and Control: To operate the fan, the power cord is plugged into a standard 120V AC outlet. The fan's functions are controlled via a single Speed Control Dial, which also incorporates the oscillation control.
  • Speed Settings: The fan offers three speed settings: Low (1), Medium (2), and High (3). Users can select the desired speed by rotating the Speed Control Dial clockwise.
  • Oscillation Feature: To activate the oscillation function, the Oscillation/Speed Control Dial is rotated to the desired speed setting. This causes the fan to pivot from side to side, distributing air over a broader area. To turn the fan off, the dial is rotated counterclockwise to the "OFF" position.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes several important safety instructions. Users are advised to read all instructions before use, use the fan only for its intended purpose, and avoid immersing the unit, plug, or cord in water or spraying with liquids. It is not intended for use by children. The fan should be unplugged when not in use, when moving it, or before cleaning. Contact with moving parts should be avoided. The fan should not be operated in the presence of explosive or flammable fumes. The power cord should not be placed under rugs, near open flames, or in high-traffic areas where it could be tripped over. The fan should not be operated with a damaged cord or plug, or if it malfunctions or has been dropped. It should always be used on a dry, level surface and only when fully assembled. The fan is for household use only and not for commercial or industrial applications. It should not be used in a window or with any solid-state speed control device.
  • Polarized Plug: The appliance features a polarized plug with one blade wider than the other, designed to fit into a polarized outlet in only one way to reduce the risk of electric shock. Users are instructed not to modify the plug or defeat this safety feature.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the fan.

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, the fan must always be unplugged. Water should not be allowed to drip on or enter the fan housing. Cleaning should be done with a soft cloth moistened with a mild soap solution. Harsh cleaners like gasoline, thinner, or benzene should not be used. The fan grill, housing, and base should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Users should not attempt to remove the fan blade and should exercise caution around the motor housing area to prevent water exposure to electrical components.
  • Replaceable Fuse: The fan is equipped with overload protection in the form of a replaceable 2.5 Amp, 125 Volt fuse located in the plug. If the fuse blows, it indicates an overload or short-circuit situation. To replace the fuse, the fan must be unplugged. The fuse cover on the top of the plug is opened by sliding it down towards the prongs using a thumb or flathead screwdriver. The old fuse is carefully removed, and a new fuse of the correct rating (2.5 Amp, 125 Volt) is inserted, ensuring its metal ends are secured in the compartment. The fuse cover is then slid closed completely. If the fuse cover is difficult to close, it's important to ensure the fuse is properly secured. The manual warns against replacing the attachment plug itself if it's damaged, as it contains a safety device that should not be removed; in such cases, the product should be discarded.
  • Storage: When not in use or between seasons, the fan should be stored in a clean, dry location. It should be kept protected from dirt and dust during storage. The manual notes that the fan can also be used during the cold winter season to circulate warm air throughout the home.
