This document describes the HoMedics Premium Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, model numbers BPA-960BT and BPA-960BT-WT, which utilizes Smart Measure® Technology and Bluetooth® connectivity. It is designed for over-the-counter home use by adults 18 years and older, with an arm circumference ranging from 9 to 17 inches (approx. 23cm to 43cm). The device can also accurately measure blood pressure in pregnant patients, including those with known or suspected preeclampsia.
Function Description:
The monitor uses the oscillometric method to detect blood pressure, measuring systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as heart rate. Upon pressing the start/stop button, the cuff automatically inflates, creating pressure around the arteries. A gauge within the cuff senses pressure fluctuations (oscillations) caused by heartbeats, converting this information into digital values displayed on the screen. The cuff then automatically deflates. The device also features an Irregular Heartbeat Detector (IHB) which indicates pulse irregularities consistent with an irregular heartbeat during measurement. It is not designed for diagnosing or treating arrhythmia problems.

- Bluetooth® Data Transmission: Automatically transmits measurement results to a paired Bluetooth-enabled device via the HoMedics Health App. This allows for synchronization of date and time and checking battery status. Bluetooth can be turned ON or OFF by holding the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds.
- Date & Time Setting: Can be set automatically via the HoMedics Health App or manually using the DATE/TIME and SET buttons.
- Rest Assure Function: A countdown of the last 5 minutes before a measurement automatically starts, encouraging users to sit quietly for 15 minutes prior to measurement for greater accuracy. This feature can be turned ON/OFF via a switch on the back of the unit.
- Triple-Check (Multi-Read) Function: Automatically takes and averages three readings in a row with 1-minute rest intervals for trusted accuracy. This feature can be turned ON/OFF via a switch on the back of the unit.
- User Selection: Supports 2 users, each with up to 120 memory slots. The USER-SELECT button allows choosing between User 1 and User 2.
- Memory Function: Stores up to 120 measurements per user. Includes AM/PM Averaging, displaying averages of the last 3 morning or evening measurements. The M button is used to recall values from memory.
- Risk Category Index: Automatically compares readings to defined levels from the American Heart Association® (AHA 2017) and provides a cue if readings fall into stages indicating increased risk.
- Measurement Procedure: Requires resting for 5-10 minutes before measurement, avoiding talking or moving during measurement, and proper cuff placement. The cuff should be positioned 0.8-1.2 inches (2-3 cm) above the elbow, with the tube centered over the arm. The arm should be laid on a table with the palm upward, at heart height.
- Error Detection: Displays error codes (e.g., EE for measurement error, E1 for air circuit abnormality, E2 for pressure exceeding 300 mmHg, E3 for data determination error, E4 for data transmission error, EP for system error) to guide troubleshooting.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: The monitor body and cuff should be cleaned with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Do not press, wash the cuff, or use chemical cleaners (thinner, alcohol, petrol). Ensure the cuff is completely dry before use.
- Battery Management: Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period. Replace all batteries simultaneously. Do not mix battery types. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations.
- Storage: Store away from extreme temperatures, humidity, moisture, or direct sunlight. Protect from dust.
- Servicing: The monitor is not field serviceable. Do not attempt to open or adjust the device. Contact HoMedics Consumer Relations for any issues.
- Cuff Care: Do not fold the cuff and tubing tightly. Do not disassemble the cuff.
- Safety: Avoid extreme shocks. Do not inflate the cuff unless wrapped around the arm. Keep the product away from children to prevent accidental strangulation.
