STARTING A COLD ENGINE

1. Makesurethechainbrakeisintherun(I)position(A)
bypullingbackonthelever/handguard.
2. Settheignitionswitchtotherun(I)position.
3. Fullypressandreleasetheprimerbulb10times.
4. Pullchokelever(5)allthewayouttofullposition(E).
Thepartialthrottlepositionisautomaticallysetwhen
thechokeleverissetatfullchoke.
5. Pull starter (7) until engine attempts to start. Slowly
pullthestarter grip outforashortdistance untilyou
feelthestarterengage,thenbrisklypullstraightup.Do
notpulltotheendoftherope;thismaydamagethe
starter. Hold ontothe grip duringrewinding. Pull the
starterropeuntiltherstringoftheengineisheard
(nomorethanvepulls).
NOTE:Anewunitmayrequireadditionalpulls.
6. Pushchokelever(5)allthewayin(G).
7. Pullstarteruntilengineruns.
NOTE: Allow the saw to run in this position 15-30
secondsdependinguponthetemperature.
8. Squeezeandreleasethethrottletrigger(15).Depress
the throttle trigger which releases the trigger lock
button.Squeezeandreleasethethrottletriggertolet
theengineidle.
CAUTION
Failuretoreleasepartialthrottlewhenchainbrakelever
isinthebrakepositionwillresultinseriousdamageto
the unit. Never squeeze and hold the throttle trigger
whilethechainbrakeisinthebrakeposition.
Now you are ready to pick up the saw. Use the proper
gripforbothhandles.Referto“Operation-propergripon
handles”laterinthismanualforadditionalinformation.
STARTING A WARM ENGINE
Follow the instructions for starting a cold engine (steps
1-9),butdonotattempttostartinthefullchokeposition
(skipstep6).Pushandreleaseprimerbulb10times.Pull
thechokeoutandpushitbacktotheoriginalrunposition.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
See gure 15.
Release the throttle trigger and let the engine return to
idle.Tostoptheengine,movetheignitionswitchtothe“O”
stopposition(17).Donotputthechainsawontheground
whenthechainisstillmoving.Foradditionalsafety,setthe
chainbrakewhenthesawisnotinuse.
Intheeventthattheignitionswitchwillnotstopthesaw,
pullthechokeleverouttothefullyextendedposition(Full
Choke)andengagechainbraketostoptheengine.Ifthe
ignitionswitchwill notstopthesawwhen set tothe“O”
stop position, have the ignition switch repaired before
usingthechainsawagaintopreventunsafeconditionsor
seriousinjury.
IMPORTANT: When you have nished using the saw,
relieve tank pressures by loosening the chain lubricant
and fuel mix caps. Then retighten the caps. Cover the
sharpchainandbarwiththeappropriatescabbard.Allow
theenginetocoolbeforestoring.
PREPARING FOR CUTTING
Proper clothing for safety
See gure 16.
■ Wear loose-fitting clothing (A). Always wear heavy,
long trousers(B), boots(C), and gloves(D). Do not
wearjewellery,shorts,sandals,orgobarefoot.Donot
wearloosefittingclothing,whichcouldbedrawninto
theengine or catchthe chainor undergrowth.Wear
overalls, jeans, or leggings made of cut-resistant
material or ones that contain cut-resistant inserts.
Securehairsothatitisaboveshoulderlevel.
■ Wearnon-slipsafetyfootwearandheavy-dutygloves
toimproveyourgripandtoprotectyourhands.
■ Wear eye (E), hearing (F), and head (G) protection
whenoperatingthisequipment.

■ Wearnon-slipglovesformaximumgripandprotection.
■ Holdthesawfirmlywithbothhands.Alwayskeepyour
lefthandonthe fronthandleandyourright handon
therearhandlesothatyourbodyistotheleftofthe
chainline.
WARNING
Never use a left-handed (cross-handed) grip or any
stancethat wouldplace yourbodyor armacross the
chainline.
■ Maintainapropergriponthesawwhenevertheengine
isrunning.Thefingersshouldencirclethehandleand
thethumbbewrappedunderthehandlebar.Thisgrip
is least likely to be broken (by a kick-back or other
sudden reaction of the saw). Any grip in which the
thumbandfingersareonthesamesideofthehandle
is dangerous because a slight kick of the saw can
causelossofcontrol.
