WARNING

PUSH AND PULL

Thereactionforceisalwaysoppositetothedirectionthe
chain is moving. Thus, the operator must be ready to
control thepull (A) when cutting onthe bottom edge of
thebarandthepush(B)whencuttingalongthetopedge.
NOTE:Yourchainsawhasbeenfullyfactorytested.Itis
normaltondsomeslightlubricantresidueonthesaw.
PROPER CUTTING STANCE
See gure 20.
■ Balanceyourweightwithbothfeetonsolidground.
■ Keep left arm with elbow locked in a “straight arm”
position(B)towithstandanykick-backforce.
■ Keepyourbodytotheleftofthechainline(A).
■ Keepyourthumbonundersideofhandlebar(C).
BASIC OPERATING/CUTTING PROCEDURES
Practise cutting a few small logs using the following
techniquetogetthe“feel”of usingyoursawbeforeyou
beginamajorsawingoperation.
1. Taketheproper stanceinfront ofthewoodwith the
sawidling.
2. Accelerate the engine to full throttle just before
enteringthecutbysqueezingthethrottletrigger.
3. Begincuttingwiththesawagainstthelog.
4. Keeptheengineatfullthrottletheentiretimeyouare
cutting.
5. Allowthechaintocutforyou;exertonlylightdownward
pressure.Forcingthecutcouldresultindamagetothe
bar,chain,orengine.
6. Release the throttle trigger as soon as the cut is
completed, allowing the engine to idle. Running the
sawatfullthrottlewithoutacuttingloadmayresultin
unnecessaryweartothechain,bar,andengine.
7. Donotputpressureonthesawattheendofthecut.

■ Cutonlywoodormaterialsmadefromwood;nosheet
metal,noplastics,nomasonry,nonon-woodbuilding
materials.
■ Never allow children to operate your saw. Allow no
person to use this chainsaw who has not read this
operator’s manual or received adequate instructions
forthesafeandproperuseofthischainsaw.
■ Keep everyone – helpers, bystanders, children, and
animals,asafedistancefromthecuttingarea.During
fellingoperations,thesafedistanceshouldbeatleast
twicetheheightofthelargesttreesinthefellingarea.
Duringbuckingoperations,keepaminimumdistance
of(4.5m)15ftbetweenworkers.
■ Alwayscutwith both feetonsolidground to prevent
beingpulledoffbalance.
■ Donotcutabovechestheightasasawheldhigheris
difficulttocontrolagainstkick-backforces.
■ Do not fell trees near electrical wires or buildings.
Leavethisoperationforprofessionals.
■ Cutonlywhenvisibilityandlightareadequateforyou
toseeclearly.
ADJUSTING THE CARBURETTOR
See gure 22 - 24.
Beforeadjustingthecarburettor,cleantheairlter(A)and
thestartercovervents(B).Allowtheenginetowarmup
prior to carburettor adjustment. Refer to “Maintenance”
laterinthismanual.
The carburettor is factory set and should not require
adjusting. The carburettor will permit only limited
adjustmentofthe“L”(LowJet)and“H”(HighJet)needles.
Any adjustment should be done by a Homelite service
dealer.
Under no circumstances should the “L” (Low Jet) and
“H” (High Jet) needles be forced outside the range of
adjustment.
CAUTION
Seriousdamage may occurto theengine ifimproper
adjustmentsaremadetothe“L”and“H”needles.Do
notforcethe“L”and“H”needlesoutsidetheadjustment
range!
