SPARK PLUGS
Refer to Maintenance Precautions on. Recommended plugs:
Standard: CR8EH-9 (NGK), U24FER-9 (NIPPONDENSO)
For extended high speed riding: CR9EH-9 (NGK), U27FER-9 (NIPPONDENSO)
1. Remove the air duct/maintenance cover. (Right side shown; left side similar).
2. Disconnect the spark plug caps.
3. Clean any dirt from around the spark plug bases.
4. Remove the spark plugs.
5. Visually inspect the spark plug electrodes for wear. The center electrode should have
square edges and the side electrode should not be eroded.
6. Discard the spark plug if there is apparent wear or if the insulator is cracked or
chipped.
7. Make sure the spark plug gap is 0.8-0.9 mm (0.031-0.035 in) using a wire-type feeler
gauge. If adjustment is necessary, bend the side electrode carefully.
8. With the plug washers attached, thread the spark plugs in by hand to prevent cross-
threading.
9. Tighten the spark plugs 1/2 turn with a spark plug wrench to compress the washers. If
you are reusing a plug, it should only take 1/8-1/4 turn after the plug seats.
10. Reinstall the spark plug caps.
11. Reinstall the air duct/maintenance cover.
