Do you have a question about the Honeywell ADEMCO 5820L and is the answer not in the manual?
Temporarily mount the 5820L and magnet using the double-back tape.
Install a third screw in the middle hole to enable the back-case tamper.
Mount magnet adjacent to positioning lines; gap can be up to 0.5 inches.
The Ademco 5820L is a slim-line door/window contact transmitter designed to provide wireless notification of intrusion for alarm systems that support 5800 Series wireless devices. This device is a single-zone transmitter, meaning it monitors a single point of entry. Each 5820L has a unique serial number assigned during manufacturing, which must be enrolled in the control panel for the device to operate within the system. When programming the control panel, the 5820L transmitter should be enrolled as Input Type 3 (Supervised RF), Loop 1.
The transmitter is powered by one AAA Lithium or alkaline battery, which can be easily replaced when the control panel indicates a low battery condition. It is important to note that alkaline batteries will yield less battery life than lithium batteries. When replacing the battery, only use Energizer L92 AAA Lithium or AAA Alkaline, Duracell MX2400, Panasonic AM-4PI, or Eveready Energizer EN92. Correct polarity must be observed during battery installation.
The 5820L features tamper protection for both the front and back case. The front-case tamper is always enabled. To enable the back-case tamper, a third screw must be installed in the middle hole during mounting. This ensures that any unauthorized attempt to open or remove the device will trigger a tamper alert.
For installation, the 5820L and its magnet should first be temporarily mounted using the provided double-back tape. Before permanent installation, a Go/No Go test should be conducted to verify adequate signal strength. If the signal is insufficient, the transmitter or magnet may need to be reoriented or relocated. Once successful, the transmitter's cover can be removed by inserting a flat blade of a small screwdriver into the opening slot at one end and separating the two halves.
The 5820L must be mounted against a flat surface. Mounting it on a curved surface can cause undue stress and potential operational failure. Mounting screws should be installed in the two outside mounting holes using a #1 Phillips screwdriver. If the case-back tamper switch is to be used, a third screw should be installed in the middle hole. The magnet, supplied with the device, should be mounted adjacent to the two vertical positioning lines on the case side, maintaining a maximum gap of one-half inch. To reinstall the cover, position it over the mounted case-back and snap it shut. The two case halves are designed to fit together in only one direction. It is important not to attempt to remove the PCB from the plastic cover for any reason.
The 5820L is designed for use with casement and double-hung windows. Its sleek design is approximately half the size of competitors, and it requires no special tools to open the case, making maintenance straightforward. The easy replaceable AAA lithium battery further simplifies upkeep.
Regarding battery replacement, only the same or equivalent type of battery should be used, and used batteries should be disposed of according to the battery manufacturer's instructions. To replace the battery, remove the transmitter's cover as described in the mounting instructions. Then, observe the correct polarity and insert the new battery into the battery retainer clips as shown in the provided diagrams.
The device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules and RSS210 of Industry Canada. Its operation is subject to two conditions: it must not cause harmful interference, and it must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Users are cautioned not to make any changes or modifications to the equipment unless authorized by the installation instructions or user's manual, as unauthorized changes could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
