I. UDP Port 47808-47823
recommende d
The UDP port of this BBMD, which is us e d to e s tablis h conne ctionle s s
transmiss ion of IP with othe r BACne t/IP-e nable d de vice s .
This UDP port must be the s ame as othe r BACne t/IP-enable d controlle rs on the
same s ubne t, e s pe cially if the controlle rs e xchange me s s age s only us ing BACne t/
IP (BACne t/Eth = NO).
The re are notable e xce ptions to this rule :
Whe n anothe r BBMD is on the s ame s ubne t, the UDP ports of the BBMDs mus t
be diffe re nt.
Any de vice on the s ame subnet that registe rs with the BBMD as a foreign de vice
(such as an ope rator workstation) mus t have a diffe re nt local UDP port from the
BBMD.
Only thos e controlle rs with same UDP port on a s ubne t will e xchange BACne t/IP
me ssage s. For be s t re s ults , always e ns ure that controlle rs on an inte rnetwork use
the s ame UDP ports . If only one UDP port is re quire d, us ing 47808 is highly
recommende d.
J. S ubne t Mas k nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn The ne tmas k value for trans mission on this network in dotte d-de cimal format.
Follow IP ne t mas king conve ntions and rule s . De fault is 255.255.255.000, which is
typical.
K. Gate way 1 Addre ss nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn The IP addre s s , in dotte d-de cimal format, of the primary IP route r the VLX us e s to
connect to the IP inte rne twork. Nnn is a numbe r from 0-255. De fault is
000.000.000.000, indicating no de vice .
L. Gateway 2 Address nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn Optional. The IP addres s , in dotte d-de cimal format, of the s e condary IP router the
VLX us e s to conne ct to the IP inte rne twork. Nnn is a numbe r from 0-255. Default is
000.000.000.000, indicating no de vice .
M. Se rve r IP Addre s s nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn Optional. The IP addre s s , in dotte d-de cimal format, of the de vice that functions as
the broadcas t dis tribution table (BDT) s e rve r to this de vice . This BBMD can
retrieve its routing table from the BDT S e rve r if its own BDT is los t for any reas on.
If le ft to 000.000.000.000, the BDT must be re -e ntere d manually. For this re as on,
the IP addre s s of the BDT S e rve r s hould appe ar in its own routing table .
N. Se rver UDP Port 47808-47823
recommende d
The UDP port of the broadcas t distribution table (BDT) s e rve r de fine d unde r S e rve r
IP Addre s s .
Items O throug h R: Broadc as t Dis tributio n Table (BDT) entries
The broadcas t distribution table (BDT) contains thre e as s ociate d e ntrie s for e ach BBMD on the IP Virtual Ne t be ing de fine d. A
maximum of 32 devices is s upporte d. Each BBMD s hould have an e ntry for itse lf in its BDT. The three e ntrie s mus t be assigned
for each BBMD on the virtual ne twork. For e ach BBMD, the firs t e ntry identifies the IP addre s s , the second the UDP port
as s ociate d with the BBMD, and the third the ne tmas k us e d on the BBMD's s ubne t. Us ually, BBMDs have ide ntical BDTs
be cause one is s e t up as the BDT s e rve r (se e S e rve r IP Addre s s and S e rve r UDP Port” here in).
BBMD n IP Addre ss nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn Each e ntry is the IP addre s s of a BBMD on the IP virtual network.
BBMD n UDP Port 47808-47823
recommende d
Each entry is the UDP port of the BBMD of intere s t. This is the s ame value se t up
as the “UDP Portin the BBMD of inte re s t.
BBMD n S ubne t Mas k nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn Each e ntry is us e d as a mas k on the ne twork of the BBMD of intere s t. Typically se t
to 255.255.255.255 (the de fault), which indicates that BACne t/IP me s s age s go
only to the BBMD of interest and to no othe r de vice s on the s ubne t.
CAUTION: Changing this s e tting (mos t commonly to 255.255.255.0) is a common
cause of IP routing is s ue s , s ince mos t IP route rs do not allow me s s age s to be
forwarde d to multiple device s as a s e curity pre caution. In ne arly all applications ,
leave this setting to the default 255.255.255.255.
